I have a68 Newport 2dr ht, recently been having lighting issues, the only way to have the lights work is to have the switch (toggle type in dash) set between the parking light position and the headlight position, half way between the two positions, also brake lights only work when parking lights are on. Switch has been replaced with NOS one, same issue occurring. Any thoughts would be helpful

The brake light issue is probably a bad ground to the tail light assemblies. Try hooking up a ground strap with alligator clips to a good ground and one of the taillight housings to see if you get lights. If you have brake lights with the ground strap, you have identified a bad ground as the issue.

Do not have any good explanation as to why your headlights only work between settings, suspect you have gotten a defective switch that has the switch plate seperated from the toggle.

I concur that something inside of the switch is not right. The toggle lever works a contact slide inside the switch, which makes the necessary connections for the different circuits to work. It should NOT be between, but "dead on" with the detents in the switch.

Stop lights go through the turn signal switch, but it could well be a poor ground. Each side of the light harness, front or rear, has it's own separate ground wire that attached to the car body near where the respective lights are.
