i have heat but only works on the defrost
cold air out of dash vents
this has atc 1976 chrysler new yorker

Have you got the FSM?
How hot was the engine? There is a lock out on the water valve that prevents the ATC from engaging until the coolant reaches 125 degrees F. When defrost is selected, you should be getting no ait out of the dash vents, so there is likely a leak to the blend door.
