It has begun- Project Delmae

Busy busy day. Yesterday while in the middle of doing a Posi-Lok cable actuator conversion on my W250, we took a few minutes to undo the upper A arms and get the shocks in place. My uncle likes to move at a fast pace, so while I was out getting liquid electrical tape to finish the conversion, he rolled the frame over to the car, and by 3 pm we Delmae back on four wheels. Next step is now to find sheetmetal and get the body done.

With Delmae’s front end put back together, I’m currently at a project hold until I can find donor parts for the body. But being at Carlisle, I decided to look for a few more miscellaneous parts for the 383. I have a 6125S Carter AVS (1971 383 HP auto) that I bought a few years back there and rebuilt myself, but decided I should go with the 4968S Carter AVS (1971 440 HP auto) instead. And even with the engine completely torn apart and awaiting for my 360 to be sent in and redone, I decided it needed an Air Grabber air cleaner

I guess 15 months is a suitable amount of time to go between updates, mainly since I haven’t done anything to Delmae since June 2021. Finally putting grease in the front end, but it’s depressing seeing my brand new front end parts all rusty. Oh well, hopefully 2023 I can get some sheetmetal found for it. But for now, I’m working on a Shelby Dakota.

I guess 18 months is a long enough hiatus from here. I’m back! And I bring presents for Delmae, as today is her 53rd birthday.

In July I bought a nice, barely used, 2022 Ram 1500 to become my daily driver and allow me to expand my travel radius immensely. Beginning of the new year I made it my goal to take a trip out west to visit @71Polara383 because I knew he had what I needed and wasn’t afraid to slice and dice a car. So that’s what I did- Thursday morning I left home and went west. Friday morning I left the hotel and had to make a quick stop at Delmae’s birthplace…

…then proceeded on to Wyatt’s shop where we loaded the back of the truck with a pair of A-pillars, rear frame rails, heater box/firewall patch piece, and some subframe/core support bushings (along with some other C body stuff that I’m delivering to a gentleman at Chrysler Nationals in July). I knew I should’ve held off for one with a longer bed (had to cut the frame rails to get them to fit and the tonneau cover had to be kept up the entire drive home, meaning no rear window visibility).

Then afterwards, I drove into the land of cheeseheads and stopped by @70 Sport Suburban to drop off his S/23 bumper I picked up for him from a guy in Carlisle, and brought home a 140 mph speedo for the cherry on top of Delmae’s cake. Not bad for 3 days and 2008 miles (as I type this, I’ve been home for an hour).

Delmae still is sitting in the same spot in same condition as the last post I made. Once I finish the Shelby Dakota, it’ll be her turn. Fingers crossed, this winter is when the rust gets fixed.

8 ft beds are a necessity. Everyone says they don't need it until they do. Problem there is you gotta step up to a 2500.
You got the right truck for your situation now.
Glad to see progress on your car starting up again .

Even a 6’4 bed would be better. But everything fit and it also can pull up to 10k too. I’m excited to get back to work on Delmae
