The driver's window in my '67 Imperial works great. Unfortunately, that's the only one. My passenger front window and the driver's side rear are slow, with the driver's side rear slowing to the point of not closing for a while today.

Can anyone go through the regular culprits on slow windows? Connections? Lube the regulator? I'm going to have to schedule a weekend to get the windows fixed, since one is totally out of alignment and doesn't work at all (passenger rear) and two others are showing signs of going south. Winter (and hopefully rain!) is coming, and they really should work.

Thanks!

Regular culprits include:

Solidified / sticky grease on tracks and inside gear head of motors.
Pucks in gear head in process of disintegrating, thus binding the gear head.
Glass out of adjustment

That's all that I can think of right now.

Yep, agreed. Time to take care of them or you'll smoke the electric motors themselves.

I don't want to be a pessimist here but I never got the rear motors to operate properly by cleaning the track and checking alignment. I plan on rebuilding them this winter. It is not an easy task for the rear 1/4 windows just getting access to them.

Here is a thread I saved from the Imperial site that might be helpful too. http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Electrical/windows.htm

Jonathan's car is a 4-door, at least he won't have to take the seat out to do the rears.

Yeah, Mr C's tutorial is what I used for the driver's window. It worked great. The symptom of that window was different, though: it wouldn't stay up, and the motor turned but no window movement. I figured I'd rebuild all of the other three motors with that system when I had them out.

I also read the Imperial page (the tab's up on my computer now), but mostly, I was up late after everyone else went to sleep, and wanted to discuss my car!

Thanks for the replies, and the warnings about getting it done sooner rather than later. This weekend is probably out, but next weekend I'll try to get in there and get them done.
