Let's make fun of youth again today...

Don't take it personal, it obviously isn't a 100% rule. Tons of X-ers like me aren't worth a sh*t either. But I will say that it feels like more and more "youth" lack any sort of pride/shame/motivation/spirit. They seem quite content to live in imaginary worlds and men seem more affected then women. I don't think this is accidental.

Meh...it's generational and a sign of old age. My dad thought my generation was worthless because of sex, drugs and rock and roll. My grandfather thought my dad's generation was worthless because they had to use tractors instead of horses and didn't husk corn by hand.

Complaining about younger generations and forgetting how worthless you were at that age is a rite of passage to "old and curmudgeonly".

WOW! I forgot that everyone born before 1990 is perfect. I'm confused how this whole "millennials are worthless" thing even got started. Whatever.
Nothing against you, Carmine, the whole thing just pisses me off.

And it should tick you off. . . Many of your compatriots were probably never given the opportunity to work along side their dad and learn how to hammer a nail, saw a 2 X 4, check and / or change oil in the family truckster or help their mom bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies (every real man should know how to do this and be able to cook at least one kind of meal too).

I seen a guy trying to change a serp belt in the parking lot and the tool he borrowed from autozone slipped off and pinched his finger in the pulley. He got it out but he was bleeding all over the counter trying to get some towels to rap it up.
Yep I can do it myself!!

Sorry you took offense to this but I understand why. I'm sure everyone on here does NOT consider you in the demographic they are complaining about. For us old farts, it seems that you are the exception and not the rule. I have a neighbor who is also the exception to the rule. He's constantly fixing or building something. It used to be lawn tractors, now it's cars and trucks with his dad. You and your buddies give us hope for the future. Unfortunately we all make generalizations.

I only know one kid that try's to learn and he works hard but he wants paid $50 an hr for me to teach him and that's not happening. The rest of my friends kids still live at home and there parents say it's o.k. he can't find a job that pays enough. There all between 22 and 30 years old, give me a break!!

Went into the local autozone this weekend, to get a torque convertor. Store has all new staff, not sure what happened to the old staff.. but damn I cant stand them.

New “manager” kid is helping me. Torque convertor? For a ‘73 Imperial? Is that a manuel, or automatic trans?

Are you f@&kin$ kidding me? The computer itself is telling you the one option...

Old guy walks out from the back. “Hey that looks like a torque convertor”...

No ****... :BangHead:

“Manager” kid is quick to tell me how much he hates his job, and can’t wait to go home everytime I’m in there.

I understand everyone isnt in to cars, and its just a job. But atleast do a little homework. No one is holding a gun to your head to stay there. Plenty of more qualified people out there who would be happy to have the job.

Rant over..

Thats the parents doing/fault. Then they scratch their heads when the kid is 40 still living at home playing video games.

Sabrinas younger brother is this way. He’s a 22 yr old man baby. Sits in his room 24/7 playing xbox. Does nothing around the house. Works at home depot part time 15 hours a week. Amazingly home depot offered him full time. But, he doesnt want to take it. He’d rather go into computers.

Parents do nothing about it. “He’s still a baby”.

I saw this little beauty in our local Auto Zone parking lot a few months ago. That's a transmission dropped to the ground. I think the car sat there for the better part of a week.

That's a very familiar story. Nearly identical to my woman's brother with the exception that he now has a full time job.

Having been in the position of hiring both experienced old timers and green as grass millennials I can tell you that there is good and bad in both. That said however I definitely quiz the heck outta new hires for life skills more than I ever did. Most of the questions I want to ask are forbotten nowadays.
Do you live at home
Do you have any dependants
Do you drive
Can you drive a manual
Do you have any addictions
Do you have a criminal record

Can’t ask these in case I offend a basement dwelling single mom without a drivers license addicted to meth and has done time for theft applying for the receptionist job.

I can tell you live in Alberta. No Human Rights Commission. Here in Ontario you would be going to jail for asking those questions LOL.

Our Socialist overlords must have overlooked it...

heck I've seen people doing brakes jobs in a AutoZone parking lot

Usually they lived in an apartment complex & wanted to borrow tools. I managed a Nationwise store, if anyone remembers those. The one that stands out was a guy that put rod bearings in a 55 Chevy pickup out in the lot.

For every 10 idiots you come across in these Automotive Aftermarket stores there is always ONE guy that really wants to do a good job and help you. I would highly suggest that you compliment the guy on a job well done and do as much business as possible with him. You might be able to teach him something about C-Bodies and maybe he'll teach you something. We all need to recognize, acknowledge, and support the young guys that are trying to do a good job.

BTW, this one good guy probably doesn't have a problem with going out in a monsoon to change Stan's wiper blades.

Negative, the egg is the egg. 10 kids can grow up in the same house and you can have 10 different outcomes

It's ok, Canadian jail is probably pretty nice. Sometimes the guards don't say "please", but you get Timbits 3 times a week.

I don't blame you one bit.

I think generalizing the "millennials" as worthless isn't right. My kids aren't slackers and their friends aren't either. We had some younger guys working for us that were pretty sharp too.

There are slackers in every generation and the older generation always paints the younger ones with a very broad brush. They have some fear that the young folks are getting away with something that they aren't.
