How would you value these cars?

Edit: If you know any of these cars, let's leave their location out of this for the moment.

This morning, rather than just look at the cars I usually window shop... I thought I would look at similarly priced cars. Several of these would have seemed unfair to compare to each other, dollar wise, but all are within a range that I found interesting.

Wow thx Jeff. Some real Butes there. Most of them Look to be in the same location due to the backgrounds in the pictures. Not that it matters, just say’en.. I would say all under 5K.. not knowing more than just the pictures provided. IMO.

The top one and the silver one are my kind of cars. That Buick Lasabre is a 750$ car, 4 doors crappy color combo, if it is one that still has a Buick engine I would go a extra $100. The Fords are a PITA, nice to look at, but really zero interest in learning a new way of doing things.

A similar ‘67 Crowne Coupe just sold at Mecum for $12,000 and I believe it was stolen. I have no interest in a few of those off brand cars so no comment. We can joke all day long about the 2500 dollar formals but we know they should be worth more and the rest of the cars are 5 to 8 G’s all day.

Were these supposed to be gag responses? The lowest value car would be the Diplomat, and assuming it's as good as it looks, $3000.

Everything else is well above that, with perhaps the '65 T-bird at the top, maybe $15k. That's not how I would value them, but it's the market.

*Edit: I'll back down a bit on the T-bird since it's obviously not a #1 car, but it's still the most valuable of the bunch. BTW, I'm not a big believer in the guide books. Nada has "average" at $14k, this is Haggerty.

The only thing that matters is what they actually sell for. Just because we believe or think something doesn't make it so. Just ask the global warming crowd. :D

This one was on the forum yesterday, and may have gotten some folks to remember the seller... so I left it off my list...

$14,975

They are all in the dealer inventory online. I usually only search 1974, 1975 Imperials and 1976-1978 New Yorkers... Today, looking at the entire inventory, even though a bit overpriced, I was a little amazed by how closely these cars were priced to each other.

I'm even going to agree with Matt that the Crown Coupe was the cream of the crop, but I haven't decided to choose which one... :poke:

Carmine certainly picked the low dollar ride, but if we were talking reality money... do you think the price spread would have been much different? Low of $9,875 to high of $17,850... would you think a 1985 Diplomat would be $8,000 more than a 1967 Imperial Crown Coupe? Or that a ($16,950) 1965 T-bird would be only a grand ($15,650) off a 1975 Imperial?

Gesswein has either stopped advertising of sold some of their Formal inventory too, They had other 74/75 Imperials over the last several years. :usflag:

Thanks to all who looked at this, maybe it made you think about the prices from a different perspective too.:)

I don't disagree a bit... the LeSabre was one step away from derby fodder from birth, but they aren't really a bad ride, I'd drive it. The four letter F word cars have a lot better parts support than a Formal. Of course you continue to side track your Formal desires with cars you could actually buy stuff for, if you wanted to spend the money. :poke:

The first few comments started off saying they were $5000 each and under then more comments kept pushing the values down even more. I kept looking at the pictures and thinking, am I missing something? Then the actual selling prices were listed and I realized hey maybe I am not totally out of touch. Mind you even though I figured they were valued more, some much more, I still got surprised by how much a lot of them sold for.

I get dealers will sell for more, but it doesn't help matters with realistic pricing. We want as much as we can get for our cars, I get that too, and think they should be valued higher than they are. But then you have flippers with cash in hand that use the dealer pricing so you have two inflated prices from two avenues of sellers. And of course a buyer's mindset is as low as possible, which I get, that's my position, a buyer. Regardless of how much I have into my car, I don't see any realistic price being near my "let it go" amount. Just because B & E bodies are getting some crazy money, it doesn't mean that our beloved C bodies are going up proportionally. Would be great if they were, but they're not. I think I'd probably buy from a member here if I was in the market for another car. There have been a few lately going for around 5k or less that I would have jumped in had the circumstances been different. Until then, I'll keep rebuilding my car,and my other car, and maybe even my truck!

Sorry for the confusion, the ones I posted are current inventory... but the place has sold some of the ones they had in the past it seems, priced similarly.

The '65 T-bird easily has the widest market, using his whacked out values as a guide, it should be $25k.
I think you saw what I did... When comparing our Formals, which truly struggle to sell even for a third of Gesswein prices... some of the cars that are more popular seem to be almost reasonably priced.

The Fuselage cars should be stronger sellers too, but I attribute some of that with their popularity overseas... the Formals don't have the same popularity. The M body seems way high, but also in pretty decent condition... I still see the occasional beat down car on CL for under a grand.

I haven't found any of the value guides to really impress me, they might be a good 'guide' when looking at a car that has lots of documented sales every year... but I never thought them to be worth much when dealing with less popular cars (like Formals).

For me, this was an interesting price comparison.
