Lug nuts or wheels?

These are the wheels that came on my 68 300. All of the mounting holes on all 4 wheels look like this, my concern is are they wore out or do they have the wrong size lug nuts? They seem to go in to the wheel kind of deep. My other 300 had same wheels but were brand new as were lug nuts. The mounting surface of lug nut fit snug in wheel hole. Im thinking I need bigger lug nuts. This does not look safe to me. Any thoughts?

Id almost bet my life those are incorrect lug nuts.

I went to this style lug nut on a couple of my cars.

Yes, it's not 100% stock appearance, but I feel they are much better and no one has gotten on their knees to look that close. The hex size may be different... I carry a 4-way lug wrench anyway, so it didn't matter to me.

Thats what I was thinking because all the wheel holes are the same and there arent any wear spots or sharp edges.

I had those on my Dakota. Hefty lug nuts with a robust taper that seats well on any wheel.
