Just showing off this minty old man survivor that I just got two weeks ago.

WANT:

1. Air conditioning, I am too old to sweat and stink so she will be getting the Vintage Air soon.
2. Drum brakes work but I think I would feel safer with a dual pot master cylinder and front discs, seeing as how almost everyone ignores official 65 mph limits and does 80 or more.
3. I hate idiot lights and don't need a clock so I want to install an oil pressure gauge where the old clock sits now, bad idea?
4. I'd also like to put a small tach on the steering column.

NEED:

1. The switch on the steering column for the turn signals is not working right because while the 4Way flashers work perfectly with all four lights, only the LEFT turn signal works on the column lever.
I think I need to just go ahead and get a tilt column which of course would include a fresh turn signal switch.

2. The steering has more than five inches of free play and yet under the hood and under the car all the suspension pieces look pretty fresh, even the bushings, which are clearly new.
I hope and pray it's just a matter of adjusting the steering box, which I am having a great deal of trouble loosening, so maybe a professional can do it for me instead before I break something.

----There is no way a 383 4BBL with 106 thousand miles feels and looks this fresh, she barks like she's brand new or rebuilt within 30 thousand miles or less.
Now here is the fun part.
I sorta know Mamie Van Doren from decades old red carpet shoots and she friended me and complimented the car, so I named it after her, she is the last of the Three Blonde Bombshells and still very alive and sharp at age 94 believe it or not. She is salty as hell, like Betty White was, she's a real hoot.

The car barks real nice, even the 727TF trans feels nice and crisp.
No rust anywhere, barely any blemishes at all, this beast was a pampered survivor with receipts and docs on literally everything imaginable.
Paid 14,500 locally here in Whittier CA.

I'd appreciate a picture of your car's Fender Tag and the first seven characters of the VIN--to help me develop and test my decoder. I'll do my best to produce a report. No charge, now or ever. Do you have fender skirts for the car? Don't butcher the dash. Leave the clock alone. Don't drill visible holes for gauges.

Beware of getting a tilt column as a means of 'fixing' your TS switch.
The 65-66 tilt column was made by Saginaw and all of the electrical stuff is different, it's GM-based.
So while some GM parts will interchange, some will not. In particular, I believe there's a cable in there for activating a switch, and hte GM length is shorter than ours.
I don't remember all of hte details, so you'll need to research.
Also, IIRC, the baseplate that seals the column to the floorpan is different between 65 and 66. Maybe your original one could be re-used - I don't know.

Saginaw tilt wheel first used in 1964. Saginaw/GM tilt wheel service info at this site: https://www.chrysler300clubinc.com/jholst/tilt-wheel/1964-tilt-wheel.pdf Remember to treat the double-ended transition connector gently. May be brittle. Tilt cables widely available. I think the "intermediates" Chevelle, etc. have nearly the right length. The wire in my 300K was 17 1/4". A previous writer suggested a new right-angle bend at the end can be prepared if the original tip was broken off. Anneal the wire to red, make a new right angle bend, water quench to restore strength.

I'm starting to get a little discouraged because I cannot seem to find a mechanic who can do the front end work on Miss Mamie.
More than a few around the Whittier CA area but all of them are booked solid and due to health issues I am not sure I have that much time left to actually enjoy this great car.
It's now been months and I can't even get an appointment.

Does ANYONE know a good mechanic that can redo the front end on a 66 Sport Fury who CAN take me ASAP?
I wish I did HAVE the tools and strength and stamina to do it myself, but I am too beat up and old now.
What I lack in strength and tools I make up for with money, so if any mechanics around the area want to make some money, contact me please.
I really would like to get the car done by Thanksgiving if possible.

Earlier you said susp parts and bushings looked good, that it seemed to be steering box looseness?
Has that changed?

I'm just willing to redo the whole thing if need be.
Might as well start factory fresh, as the saying goes.
I just want to enjoy the car.

FWIW, under that cover (circled) there's a rubber coupler that goes to crap after a bunch of years. That may be the cause of your problem or at least the fist place I'd look. Have someone wiggle the steering wheel while you watch the shaft below it.

That's a much easier and cheaper repair if it is and you may be able to find someone to do the job easier too.

Looks like this under the cover. Note cracks in rubber. This one isn't too bad.

That’s a nice looking ride!!! 2 things from me.. you definitely want and need a 2 pot master… you can get a 2 bolt one from a 1995 lebaron 4 wheel disc, 7/8 bore… that’s what I run, and I’ve had zero issues… the car stops perfectly.. also changing over from that rubber doughnut steering linkage junk to a double joint has been outstanding!! The lower one is from borgeson and the upper you can get from eBay or Amazon .

Already checked it and that part is okay, it's the steering box itself.
Apparently someone already tightened it too far before I owned it.
Look, what I lack in strength and tools I make up for in money and I just want to redo the whole front end.

Well, I just ordered the full front disc kit AND the complete front end refresh kit from Kanter, about 2300 bucks all told.
It includes the power booster and dual pot master cylinder, and everything else.
Bad news is, it's probably shipping by rail so it may take up to three weeks to get to Los Angeles from New Jersey, oh well.☹️
Miss Mamie was a bad girl and ate her battery so she got a new one from O'Reilly and I'm just limiting myself to little trips around town.
The handling is good enough for puttering around town for now.

We started work on Miss Mamie's front end yesterday and THIS part (pictured) is not quite the same as ours but ours is the wrong size for the new Borgeson steering box and I need need NEED a replacement that will fit the 1 1/4 inch input on the Borgeson box.

Since I am keeping the rear drums and going front disc, (with DUAL pot master) what's the story on the old proportioning valve?
Do I keep it and cap the unused holes, or do I need to delete it entirely?
Obviously I need a splitter for Front L and Front R discs.

Not interested in arguments about keeping it pure and stock, discs are already in, dual pot master already in.
I just need to know what to do about the proportioning valve and how to split the left and right front lines.

But now that I am switching to a dual pot will I NEED one? I assume so.
Not because of the dual MC, but you may want one to balance the front to rear since you have installed front discs. If it were me, I would use an adjustable aftermarket proportioning valve.

Yes indeed, got one.
Now I want to ask about toe-in, caster, camber, all those good things, in case anyone has the secret sauce numbers I should shoot for, as this is all brand new suspension parts from Kanter.
