And speaking of geology...Sideling Hill Cut located at the Maryland "taint" between WV and PA. Before the visitor center opened I used to stop and find trilobites and fish looking things at this elevated spot. Cheers to both mother nature and the workers who cut it.
I got to thinking about the old pic of Main St I posted and looked for a present time picture.
This was the best I could find from the same viewpoint. Note the church steeple in both. The building with the porch is the Alvord House, and I think that burnt, but the brick building is the newer version, still the Alvord House. My oldest son tended bar part time in there for a few years. The Esso station is long gone, became an Amoco station somewhere along the line and then torn down and a bank is there now. Not much else has changed.
I've had people refer to this as the real "Mayberry"... It truly is part of my America.
