Is there a reason for the power steering hose to be larger about half way and then reduced to a smaller diameter? I installed a Borgeson box and can get hose made at the tractor supply store for half of the cost of buying from Borgeson (besides not being able to obtain due to COVID and not located in U.S.). I have searched the internet and cannot find anything.

One pictures shows the one I had made, other shows one off another c-body parts car.

The Original ones -- used "restrictor" fittings -- and stepped down the flow where it meant to be "stepped down" or "restricted"....
The new fangled companies Do Not have those fittings or the equipment --- to make a factory correct hose. They make --- a hose....

If you were doing a factory correct car, one you got made is clearly inadequate....
If you are just doing "a driver" then, it will suffice....

If the one you had made works, use it. The smaller diameter on the one end is to reduce flow and increase pressure (more oil trying to move thru the smaller diameter) this gave a more positive steering response, especially at lower engine rpms. Mobileparts is correct, these fittings are no longer being made so you would either need to find a NOS/NORS hose or use what you have if a correct stock look is not needed.

If you do need to restrict the flow, you can make a restricted fitting with a piece of 3/16" steel tubing. Just single flare it and install it in the outlet fitting on the pump.
