helping my dad clean up his garage a lil bit we had to move his bare 392 engine blocks out of the way. was able to pick them up just a lil bit just to get them to where they need to go...

how much does it weigh bare block alone

I think a 392 block is somewhere between 175 and 200 lbs. bare. They are pretty comparable to a 318/340 in size. In comparison, a 440 is 225 lbs.

Oh.. and a complete 392 is 740 lbs. v. 440 at 670lbs. Those hemi heads are heavy!

392 heads are around 75lbs (loaded?)

Next time use a two wheel dolly

Best thing to move heavy stuff by yourself. I have two dollies and four of those furniture dollies that Harbor Fright sells. I have another one made of steel angle that I can move engines with.

I've moved everything from complete big blocks to stand up piano's by myself with them w/o breaking a sweat or dropping anything. I have 4 ... 3 with hard wheels and one with air tires. My favorite one is the solid aluminum one with hard wheels. I have a couple of the furniture dollies too but never use them ... just use the two wheelers

I moved a cast iron bath (500lbs.)tub a few weeks ago with the furniture dollies. I just picked up each end with a long pry bar and slid blocks under it until it was high enough for the dollies.

If you give things enough thought, you can move all sorts of really heavy things without doing any actual lifting. I've moved milling machines and lathes with nothing but a pry bar, some chunks of 2x4 and a bunch of cut off water pipe to use as rollers.
