No gears

Hi all, i went to fill up my 69 newport that i just got on the road.
Went to pull off the forecourt , no gears, only park works , oil ok , linkage ok. Any ideas please?

Are you checking fluid in neutral with engine idling?

Sorry if that seems too simple, but it's tripped up more than a few guys.

On some of the earlier transmissions the converter would drain out and give the symptoms you describe. Try starting the car and shifting to neutral and let it run there for a minute or two before shifting into gear to let the converter get filled up again.
