Allegedly a CHP car..with 300 miles on a new 400 block.
Pretty dark tint on it..even on the windshield...hopefully it helped a bit in protecting the interior.
It's running Minnesota plates (correct me if I'm wrong)..it may have some severe undercarriage rust from its time up there.

How rare are these? I'm not really familiar with them.

FB Description
1976 Plymouth Gran Fury, former California Highway Patrol car, 400, AT, very low miles on the new short block, in storage for 20+ years, needs lots of love, but far too rare to junk. The best reasonable offer takes it home.

I'm no expert on CHP but I've never seen a Fury used by CHP.

I'd say pretty rare if it's true. In the 1970s the CHP was heavily into Dodges (C's and B's) for their "enforcement class" purchases. It may have been bought by the CHP for some other purpose, of course. So it needs some documentation to prove the claim.

@shooter65 shot faster than I did.

Yea in 1977 when I was in California all I saw were Dodges and chatter around town (we had many CHP come into the shop) was they were of the 1974 year and that many have had the engines rebuilt by 1977.

.

The driver side A-pillar shows traces of what may have been a bracket for a spotlight. So it may well have been a cop car. But for which outfit?

So it may well have been a cop car.

AMAZING! I just came across the pictures I saved from the CL AD from 09/04/20 that had PK41P6D in the title.

So it would be:
P = Fury
K = Police
4 = 4 door
1 = Sedan
P = Engine 400 V8, high performance
6 = Year (1976)
D = Plant (Belvidere)

If we change that into CSP "Colorado State Patrol", everything would fit. They had 1976 Gran Furys and they were white. You have to scroll a bit until it says "1976 CSP Plymouth Gran Fury". Same for 1977, going by this old ad.
i had two CSPs (a 76 and a 77) that looked like this car, and both had the PK41P VIN prefix. That don't prove nuthin' -- it is just consistent with the 'theory of the case" that this could be a CSP rig (vs CHP).

If I were a buyer, knowing more of its duty service would be useful info to me. But, for me not a showstopper IF this one is truly "self-evidencing" (tags, broadcasts, original color, fleet equipment, etc) as to its factory specs.

hope it finds a good home.

Thanks for sharing @T-revorNobody !

If it was a 440 instead a 400, I probably would have jumped at it.

Nice find anyway!

I just noticed that this car has pinstripes. Does anyone know of a state agency that used pinstripes? I know many cars are repainted when sold but I don't know of any agency that put pinstripes on after the repaint.

neither of my CSP cars had pinstripes. neither had body side moldings. both were wearing original (but oxidized) paint.

again, don't prove nuthin .. just info from my experience with two documented CSP cars (out of the multiple dozens they must have bought in 76 & 77)
