I've got my new fuel tank installed in the Imperial. The original was coated in factory undercoating. My question concerns painting the tank. Since the original shows no sign of paint anywhere (just the undercoating), Would it look "right" to paint the bottom of the tank a matte-finish black, flat black, or leave it as-is (unpainted)? And if left unpainted, I wonder if a couple of coats of a non-gloss clear would work?

I like the look of the unpainted tank. At the same time, it stands out in relation to the rest of the area around the tank.

On my '58, I painted mine a silver color, therefore keeping that "raw metal look" and contrast to the black color of the chassis, but protecting it nonetheless.

I was originally going for the bare metal look, but since it was an original tank it didn’t really look clean after I stripped it. I went with an aluminum finish with a coat of satin clear.
