I have a 1968 Polara 500 convertible I have been slowly turning back into a driver. There is a bushing or as the 67 manual calls it out, a retainer that is missing. This retainer is shown below from the 67 manual. Does anyone have one, or perhaps share with me the dimensions so I can print or turn one on the lathe?

Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.

I don't know if this will help. The front cable on my '67 Monaco is likely an aftermarket item (not original) that dates to the late 1980's. It has a plastic outer housing cover. When I replaced my front stub last year, I think what-ever clip it had that secured it to the stub was mostly rusted away. So what I did when I pulled it was to clean it up and then cut a thread on it to accept a 7/16 fine-thread nut. Here's how that looks:

Now, this next part might help answer your question. My replacement stub did have a fragment of what I think was the original factory cable. Here are a couple pics of it:

This fragment that I have (about 6 inches long) has a spiral metal jacket, and a spring-metal lock that seems to be what held the end in place in the hole. This could be the "retainer" mentioned in your diagram. My '67 manual shows the same diagram.

that last picture (above) does look like the original style retainer for the front cable. Personally, I think it's more for ease of assembly (will snap in place and stay there) but could serve other purposes, especially if the cable ever goes slack anywhere rearward. My hunch is this would be an "across the board" type piece and maybe can find for A/B/E body cars somewhere ... or just forget about it and stick it together carefully and once there's tension on that cable it ain't goin' nowhere

Thanks fellas. The replacement cable I purchased has the stub as shown, but the hole in the cassis is bigger and needs some kind of bushing. I will try to get an image of what I am describing badly and post it. I appreciate the help.

I musta had one too many cold snacks last time I was under the polara. Seems the hole to thread the brake cable through was welded shut. I can only guess that I saw the larger hole before the one that actually holds the stub. Just took a few minutes of drilling. I dung throught the trunk and found what ever was left of the cable.
