Old Man with a Hat
At some point, I'm going to re-org this into a resto thread. Probably in the winter when I'm sick/freezing/under a foot of snow. I'm nearing the end of what I'm going to do on this car in 2017, as I have a bunch of other projects in line. My main goal this summer was to get the car mobile; that is, able to be moved without calling a damn tow truck to lift the front end.
Now I know my "unconventional" sub frame removal method may have concerned some of you. This should make you feel better. But first, let's look at why I wasn't interested in climbing under the ol' Sundance... Beyond the idea I couldn't think of a safe way to support the front end.
Look kids, it's Mickey's cousin from the 'hood; Rodney Rat!
His final resting place was the lower half of the stubframe, approximately under the driver's seat. Another year and his buddies would have moved inside the car.
I have no doubt the the undercoating saved this car's life. As bad as the frame was, the floors and their mounts were intact. Just to explain why the stub isn't restored, it's because I'm going to pull it back apart (well, this time I won't "pull it").
Garden hose and pressure washer.
Vote for Scott Dodich. I'm sure he loves his campaign sign in the background of this shot!
Feeling whole again. I learned something from Murray Park... Fusie stub frames are the same for small and big-block. As long as I've been in the game, I assumed they were different. That means this one is getting it's numbers-matching 360 back. We'll file the '72 440 under "future projects".
Sorry this is out of focus, but perhaps this was a "fix" for the air-cleaner-stud-warping-carb-bodies-problem? I've never seen this before, has anyone else? Prototype part?
