Many believe that it was impossible to get a Formal NYB without A/C...primarily because so few were ever made that way. I had a 76 NYB that was a non A/C car and when I mentioned it on websites I was told that I was wrong.

Well, this poor low option 78 is being parted, but it has many excellent pics that prove that they were available without A/C. I'm offering the link for those that care to peruse the pics.

Note the passenger side plug and the fake driver side vents that were on the non A/C cars.

I can appreciate certain climates not seeing A/C as a necessity, but even in my "northern" years this would have been an odd car. I wonder if it was the owner or a dealer ordering it striped down so much. Either way it looks too good to be getting parted.

Even 25 years ago I remember selling the large cars and asking if they wanted A/C and more often then not they said only if its free. Really only use it 2-3 months a year up here.

Imagine trying to find a replacement for your broken drivers side fake air vents today.

I bought a clock chronometer delete plate just because I could.

I suppose the climate in Finland is pretty much the same as in Calgary. Sixty to seventy in the summer most of the time, only occasionally (perhaps for a few days at a time) rising up to eighty, and very rarely, if ever, touching ninety. - Consequently, when my late father was ordering his '70 New Yorker, the dealer talked him out of the A/C. "Too much trouble, the system doesn't hold up the winters up here." There were like 25 to 30 Chryslers imported up here annually (!) in those days, and most of them, if not all, were non A/C. It changed when the local Dodge importer started to offer fully loaded Dodge Royal Monacos in 1973 or 1974 to compete with the Merc S-class buyers. Then the Chrysler importer followed up.

I bought one of these to part out a few years ago. Special ordered by someone who worked in the minivan plant as his retirement gift to himself. Vinyl roof and the AM/FM-8track were the only options I could see on that car.

I've seen only one non-A.C. Formal and it was for sale up in the PNW.
I've seen a couple of radio delete Formals.
I bought a NOS Formal clock delete plate only because I could. Probably never see one again.

I solved that problem the first time around. I notched the bracket so you have easy access to the driver's side bolt with a swivel socket and an extension. It's a five minute job again.

Yep.....I'll be doing that to my Newport when I replace the water pump, thermostat & housing, hoses, etc.
