Old Man with a Hat
Let's get all the "Are you nuts", :WTF are you smoking", and "This is a joke, right?" out of the way up front.
I am really starting to hate the TQ on my NYB. I spent tons of money and countless tear downs to get the 440 to idle and run like a FI engine. The money bordered on obscene.
Now the carb is running like crap again and I'm swapping it out for something that actually works. Permanently.
Fast, easy, and relatively cheap: Throw on an Edelbrock and be done with it and hopefully that universal application carburetor works out of the box like many of you have happily experienced. I haven't had the greatest love for out of the box Eddies or Holleys.
I have said for years, the greatest engine ever made was the 383-2. My '67 Newport has proven that to me all over again and it's basically untouched since new, engine-wise. I want to go with a 2bbl on my 440.
Problem: No such thing as an RB 2 bbl intake except for the old truck 413's. Rarer than hen's teeth now. I think they are all melted down by now.
Solution: Adapter plate. Fine. But I can't find a 4 bbl spreadbore to 2 bbl adapter.
Suggestions???
This is not crazy. It makes sense if you think it through....
