Let's get all the "Are you nuts", :WTF are you smoking", and "This is a joke, right?" out of the way up front.

I am really starting to hate the TQ on my NYB. I spent tons of money and countless tear downs to get the 440 to idle and run like a FI engine. The money bordered on obscene.

Now the carb is running like crap again and I'm swapping it out for something that actually works. Permanently.
Fast, easy, and relatively cheap: Throw on an Edelbrock and be done with it and hopefully that universal application carburetor works out of the box like many of you have happily experienced. I haven't had the greatest love for out of the box Eddies or Holleys.

I have said for years, the greatest engine ever made was the 383-2. My '67 Newport has proven that to me all over again and it's basically untouched since new, engine-wise. I want to go with a 2bbl on my 440.

Problem: No such thing as an RB 2 bbl intake except for the old truck 413's. Rarer than hen's teeth now. I think they are all melted down by now.
Solution: Adapter plate. Fine. But I can't find a 4 bbl spreadbore to 2 bbl adapter.

Suggestions???

This is not crazy. It makes sense if you think it through....

Use a 2300 Holley from the center of a six pack setup. It's an extremely simple carb that works OK.

I put a factory 68' 383 Intake and 67' AFB on the Cordoba 400. what an Improvement! I would do the same to that 440. I have several nice 66' 383 AFB's if you had an older Intake as well.(smaller bolt pattern)

Raised block - Quadrajet spread bore mounting - That's what I'm up against.
You're saying an adapter and an AFB 4 bbl?
Possible. Like to seek out the 2bbl route thoroughly though...

Try this one Stan....

You don't really want to put a 2bbl on a 440, do you?

Stan, you get me all hyped up to go ahead and use the thermoquad I have, and now this? WTF man! :poke: Good thing I didn't spend any $$ on it yet! lol jk.

I'm thinking the eddie 4 barrel route is the way too go.

Go with the Eddie 1411 (750 CFM) it comes with the electric choke.

I cant help with the adapter, but i will second (or third) the recommendation for the Holley 2300/4412. Great carb. I have one i ran on a built 360, love that carb.

Yes. Doesn't bother me a bit.
I don't need secondaries kicking in on that freighter.
And damn it, there's no dicking with the carb forever and a day with a 2bbl.
Idle and perfectly smooth acceleration are my top priorities.

I thought I conquered that thing. After the heads were done, carb runs like crap again. I'm worn out...
