There won't be any trains going that way any time soon. What hasn't collapsed already is sure to be compromised by the heat from the fire.

That's a shame. It was a neat old bridge. Probably the oldest thing left in Tempe.

Built in 1912, this bridge survived while floods destroyed the previous three truss bridges constructed in the same location. The bridge is still used today by cargo trains.

Wow that sucks. Mill Ave and that dude were the strongest bridges over the Salt, now the crown goes to Mill Ave. that’s awful.

Agree, headed west on the 202 this morning. Had to go south on the L101 to hit US60. I was heading over to Glendale. Once thy have the fire out they’ll open the L202.

Update. Apparently there was another derailment in the same spot last month. It seems like it was kept pretty quiet for some reason. NTSB is here to investigate. We'll see what they find but that previous incident probably is somehow related.

The current bridge was built in 1912 so if it replaced this one you are right on.
