Trying out a new point & shoot

Some more zoom and blinds won´t help.
So your telling me this camera has x-ray vision???

Now go out at night and take some photos of the moon or a welders mask for some sun shots

I used to have a 100-400mm for my dlr. Really could pull things in.
I carried around a 100-300 and a 2x multiplier, along with the tripod to use them together. I still have two 10 lb. bags of SLR bodies and lenses from days gone by. With these ultrazoom cameras there is no longer a need for all that gear, although there are some trade-offs compared to a full manual control camera.

At least, with the digital cameras, you don't have to chase the ISO1000 films so the highly-zoomed images are still sharp?

Of course, you can use the ultra-zoom with a borescope to check the cross-hatch on cylinder walls, too? Width and depth of the pattern?

300 with a 2x would be some serious magnification

After a side by side comparison, I think I'll stick with my P510. As much as it is nice for the high zoom, I don't think it's worth the upgrade for me just for the zoom. Both cameras use the same 16MP sensor so file sizes and picture quality are the same. The old one has a more user-friendly screen, is much more nimble, and lends itself to one-handed operation. The additional 12 oz. (2 lb. 3 oz.) in weight will be noticed when carrying it around for a few hours, nevermind the size differential.

I went out in search of those haybales today, and they are 1 1/4 miles across the field from my place. I took another pic this morning with the snow.

This pumpjack is over 1/2 mile away. The brand name 'Lufkin" is legible on it.
