What is this and what does it do

1964 imperial, I've asked several of the Mopar guys at the car shows and they're stumped
At first I thought is was some kinda old timey ballast resistor, but then I saw the ballast resistor to the right of it
It basically looks like a spool of white thread
Any idea what it is and what it's for?

Balast resistor only on factory AC cars. Don’t know what it connects to. Look on a wiring diagram.

the one for the ignition is to the left.
 
Resistor for fan speed for your A/C.

Look on page 24-4 in your FSM and you can see it in the circuit.
