Hi,

mine’s leaking badly from the top adjustment nut. The car only has 57k. Wondering if I should rebuild or get a new box. If getting a new box, is there a specific part # for this application? My research has found that people have had a hard time getting the right part.
Thanks!!!

Have you checked the adjusting nut to be sure it is tight? You can send your existing gear to www.larescorp.com and have it rebuilt. That way you should get the same unit back.

Rick, do you have a factory service manual (FSM)?

Yes I do. Says nothing about the steering gear leaking - just the PS pump if it leaks.

It is pretty unusual for a power steering gear to leak around the adjusting nut on a C-Body. Get yourself a can of Brakekleen and clean off any accumulated crud. Most of the time you will that the PA valve is leaking from one of the o-rings that seals it to the steering gear body. If that is causing your leak, the PA valve will need to be removed to service the o-rings. Caution: the PA valve needs to be returned to exactly the same position on the gear or the car will self steer in one direction or the other. Scribe the position of the PA valve carefully before taking out the two bolts that attach it. Second, the cheapo chicom o-rings at Car Crap and Auto Bone are not good enough for a replacement. Find some from a good hose shop that are high pressure rated.
