Inherited a 66 polara wagon

Well I moved recently and have yet to find a lot of stuff. I found these so far - quite certain I have more duplicates of the z bar and clutch bracket but can't find put my finger on them right now. I only have one floor hump. I sold one and the rest were 3 speed cars - mine is a 3 speed on the column. My junk subframe does not have a z bar bracket.

I can't sell these as I am selling a complete 65 4 speed conversion so I might need these if I can't find the others. But this gives you an idea of what you need.

BTW - some years ago, someone I belive in Peru was reproducing the floor humps but those are no longer available new.
 
If it doesn't need to fit a console you could buy an A or B body repro just to get the part the boot and trim ring bolts to, cut away whatever keeps that part from sitting nice and square over the hole and then practice beating some sheetmetal into submission to close up the gaps. Once it's sealed up, carpet covers a multitude of sins. It might seem like a lot of money to spend for something you are going to mostly not use but that flange and riser would take some serious skill and time to duplicate and you might be able to trim some of the remainder up to close in the majority of the gaps.

If you look at a factory tunnel, it looks like they used an axe to hack the hole for the shifter and then they welded that hump over it to hide the evidence.

kinda what I was thinking about doing. My firebird has a t56 and no off the shelf manual adapter would work for it so I cut my 4 speed one to pieces and reconfigured it over the hole (since the t56 was centered and the 4 speed are offset like these)
I’ll see what a b body repop costs.
 
I will be happy to help anyway I can. Somewhere I have a jig to properly locate the z bar bracket on the frame for welding, but you probably don't need it. I needed it because the subframe was not in the car when I welded it in. I had to change my frame and it did not have the bracket.

And I also believe that this 65 floor hump is the only one with the large rectangular opening. I think the newer ones have a different opening but its easily changed. Not sure how soon you will need it, but I am quite certain I can at least find you a z bar and if necessary make a z bar bracket for you. I have good fabrication skills.

I will be on vacation next week and hope to continue my unpacking and who knows what will be found.......

I would definitely appreciate it, the car is a bit distant on the project list but collecting the parts now makes the most sense.

What would fabricating a floor hump cost to have you do that? I don’t doubt I can make one but if you have the correct one end can make a replica of that that fits the stock tunnel that would save me a lot of time which is the hottest commodity for me these days haha.

I don't do stuff like this for money. I do it for fun........... Normally folks just cover material costs. But it would be a while as right now my shop is a mess and its big....

As you can see I have a spare floor piece for the hump so that helps for fit and location. I sold that hump years ago........

Whenever you have time and a clean shop let me know, I’d be more than happy to put in on material.

Those covers came out really good! I wouldn’t have guessed they weren’t original to it
 
The best way to locate the z bar bracket if the engine is in the car is to install the z bar in place and then tack the bracket in. Remove z bar and weld the bracket in. IMO only way to go if the engine is in the car.

I need to rebuild/reseal both engine and trans first so once that’s done that shouldn’t be an issue.
 
Shoot, I wasn’t sure if a B body was close and they made the sheet metal for that.
They do for my firebird, maybe I’ll try something like that.

The 66-70 B-Body 4 spd hump is similar. There was a member here on the board a couple years ago who made one work and posted up the pics and info on what he did on the modifications.

Just spent an hour searching for it...it was @rd92west who did the conversion....

I'm as usual, late to the party.
When I welded the z bar bracket in my 66 polara I had exact measurements from a 65 3 on tree polara.
When it was time to weld I chickened out and installed the engine/bellhousing and z bar. Positioned the bracket and marked the frame rail. Then removed everything and welded the bracket.
I would tip my hat to anyone who can weld the bracket in while the engine is in place. Big block that is. Not a whole lot of room. Might be doable with small block.
