My 65 fury lll won’t start I drove it to the restaurant and went to leave , no spark ? I towed it home and put it in the garage and check a few things , the coil has power to it with the key on but no spark to the plug. I pulled the plug out and laid it on the exhaust manifold when I crank it no spark ? The crazy thing is when I turn the key off I get a spark ? I tried a different coil same thing. I think my control module is ok ? I made sure it has a good ground, I would be grateful for any help.

I don’t think so,I also tried a different one? I think I will bypass it and see if that helps ? From what I understand with my electronic ignition I don’t need it anyway.

What kind of ignition are you running? With a conversion I'd suspect the ECU also

That's classic bad ballast resistor symptoms. If you don't need it with your system, don't use it.

If you do need it, simple to check with a multimeter. Unhook the wires and check for continuity across the resistor. No continuity equals bad resistor.

EDIT: The heat is getting to me... That's a classic DUAL ballast resistor problem. A single ballast resistor has the opposite problem where it starts and then dies when you left off the ignition switch.

Sorry for any confusion... It's been a long day...

Based on what you've described, I would suspect either the ECU or the VR sensor in the distributor.

Take a test light and check the distributor. Output turns ground off and on. I don't know Proform, but computers need the on/off ground to actuate spark using coil primary negative. I'm betting bad magnetic pickup.

Thanks for the info guys , today I replaced the ignition switch the ballast resistor and the coil , still no go ? I guess I will replace the control module if that don’t fix it I might put my duel point distributor in it before I buy another electronic one .

You said you get spark with the key off? What is getting spark with the key off? Is it possible the wire to the distributor has a break in it?

Answer to your question about spark, when I crank the engine no spark to the plugs when I turn off the key the plug fires ?

When you move the key from the "Start" position to the "Run" position or from "Start" to "OFF"?

Hi guys , I found the problem it was the ecu , apparently these are only good for about 100 miles ? Thanks for all the help.

Make sure the ECU has a good ground when mounted, I installed a proform kit on a 87 Dodge D150 and added a ground wire to one of the mounting bolts just to be sure it had a good ground. As far as I know my customer is still driving it
