I finally bit the bullet and decided it was time. 8 years of "when are you getting it painted" finally got to me. She is parked in front of my brother's sunoco station the day we got the 57 royal. Now she is in the body shop apart and getting ready for a fresh coat of paint.

@MoparMike -- what is the original color, and do you have more pics of the Monaco in the condition in which you acquired it?

The car was originally the yellow that is on the roof. It was dark metallic purple when I bought it. Although at 1 time it had been burgundy. There is no sign of the roof being anything but yellow or purple. Which leads me to believe the car was painted burgundy while the roof was left yellow. I have pics somewhere, just not on my current phone.

Monica is almost done. I checked on her today and all that is left is the trunk, putting the windows in and final alignment of all the body gaps. She is now 68 Chrysler maroon metallic and GM Snowflake metallic. I have a lot of work to get her back together. Carpet, headliner, interior, all the chrome and emblems. It had been a long road. 10 years ago I bought this car because I wanted something different. I got it online from across the country and it hadn't ran in 4 years. Then when it came I was stuck in a hotel room in New Jersey. My brother unloaded it into his garage. The next day it took him 3 hours, new battery, new spark plugs, 5 gallons of 116 octane gas and some starting fluid and it was running. It had a bad miss and the rear bumper was on the ground. New super stock leaf springs and rebuilt the front suspension. I had the interior done. Pulled the motor and tranny and rebuilt them. I then drove it like that for 7 years. The paint wasn't great, metallic purple and the clear coat was peeling. I drove it everywhere. I didn't care where I parked. August of last year my wife was diagnosed with cancer. She said I want to see it done. Now she keeps apologizing because she didn't realize how much work and money is involved to do this right. When it's done it will be the car I've always envisioned. In 10 years she has never driven it. She always said she didn't want to hurt it. When I get it back together I'm going to make her drive it. Without her pushing me it wouldn't have gotten done.

I thought I would post some updated pictures. All the exterior chrome is on, the console is recovered and back in the car. The package tray is now metallic maroon. It is almost back together. Now if the bumpers ever get back from the chrome shop......

Awesome! Looking great ! I prefer stock wheels, but these look good!

Almost done. The headliner is going in next weekend then I can finish the interior chrome and put the package tray and back seat in. For the first time since I've owned the car all the lights work in the console and on the doors. I took a picture of the fender tag. The bumpers are supposed to be here Friday.
