It´s time for the Slab picture thread

If anyone can school me on the backspacing measurement, or at least know what the stock backspacing is, I’d certainly appreciate it.
Exactly What Wheels & Tires Fit C Bodies?

As usual @amazinblue82 your teachings are sinking in. Thank you.

With current 6” wheels, and assuming they are 0 offset, every inch I go wider on a new wheel, would increase the backspace 0.25” if staying at a 0 offset. This is jibing with what is on the wheels vintique website.

Hoping someone on here might know the stock backspacing…. Otherwise I guess I am going to be taking off a wheel and measuring per @GOLDMYN advice.

Sorry to tie up this slabies picture thread with this wheel conversion.

@SPF Required

dunno your answer exactly, but my experience from memory is six inch width, 14 or 15 inch diameter, steel wheels from American OEM's to be ~4.0 inch "backspacing" (bksp), which is about an inch of positive "offset".

Boiling all that down, a 14-15 inch diameter (6,7, or 8 inch width) Magnum (or any wheel), with 4.0 - 4.25 inch bksp, , with tire NO "wider" (e.g., like a 255/60, or about ~10 inches) and NO "taller" (e.g., like a 215/70 or 225/70, or ~27-28 inches in diameter), you should be golden - IMHO.

You'd have to make a aesthetic choice on what "look" (e.g., big & little, all same size, fat or thin, etc.,) you wanted, and not worry much/at all about interference on an UN-modified slabbie.

hope that helps. good luck chief.

Yup - that math works out better! Thank you

I actually have the factory backspacing written in my service manual, but as I am about 4,500 miles from home I can’t get to it until Friday

Thanks it’s loaded has disc brakes (My Girlfriend wants to drive)! I’m working with it now get some more out soon
What a beauty! I have a strong appreciation for those headlight doors lining up with the centerline on the grille.

Thanks for posting! Looking forward to more.

Sorry I gummed up the works…. Hers’s some more pics to get us back on track.

hey @SPF Required .. my comment wasn't intended for you or anyone in particular. Hope it didnt come across that way. :)

Like electricity, threads go wherever they go ALL the time by nature. It all cool by me. Thread "etiquette" I learned here is some members appreciate it when we "self-police" and keep on whatever the overall thread topic is.

Your questions have HUGE relevance to ALL C's, let alone what you, me, or anybody is specifically considering.

Because many of us have had the "what fits my C?" questions, and will continue to have them in all sorts of contexts, I was trying get us to the thread just focused on wheel stuff for posterity.

As long as you/anyone gets/gives useful wheel inputs is/was the goal. Wherever it is. I'll let the mods be the thread police. :poke:

Having its own thread helps us to find the topic when we are researching too.

Finally had a chance to get the old girl out for a drive - first of the year. She started right up from her winter slumber and ran great!

Any of you slabbies out there have Magnum 500s on your ride? Can you share some pics of the broadside of your ride?? If you happen to have 17 inchers on, that would be even better. If you could post your wheel and tire size it would be much appreciated.

I was reading some posts about old tires. Mine are in good condition, but well past 10 years now. If I am going to get new tires, I might as well get the wheels I have wanted for a long time. I have a ‘68 300 convertible.

Thanks in advance!
