My original convertible boot finally started to split after almost 57 years and once it strarted, the wind really accelerated it while driving. I put some Gorilla black tape on it to stop the splitting from continuing.
The new boot is from Legendary and I think it looks very close to the original. Fit is good. it came with 3 snaps done at the factory. One on the center at the rear, 2 on each side by the rear quarter window. I had the balance of the snaps done at an upholstery shop. They did it while I waited and it was $100. Before and after:

For you original numbers, markings guys. The underside of the original boot has a circle with GS, and 11/67 ink stamped on it. My schedule build date on the fender tag is 12/6/67. In house inspection mark maybe?

So…
Do you put the front on to the top of the back seat before the rest of the boot is snapped in place?

yes. On my boot, there is a plastic strip that slides into a metal slot along the entire width of the back seat top. This plastic strip was oem, it came on the Legendary boot as well, it stops the boot from buffeting when driving with the top down. when I put the top up, I unsnap the boot and fold it over the top of the rear seat, not removing it. It will fit in the top well, but no one sits in my rear seat and I don’t want to forget to pull it out of the well the next time I put the top down.

There is a strip on the boot that looked like it should slip in there but I had already stretched it on. Next time I’ll put it in the slot first and see what kind of mess I can make of that!
Thanks for the info.

The new boot looks great @JC68vert300 ! Curious…. Did legendary not put the snaps on by policy, or did your request them not be applied so your could confirm their placement locally? I think my boot may be on the way out soon. It probably is not the original. But it has lost a lot of its stretchiness over the years.

The son of the original owner had it made and couldn’t get it to stretch on. He probably used the original for snap placement. I have it, it’s just a little rough.

Thanks. Legendary only installs 3 snaps. One in the middle of the rear, and 2 on the sides, the balance come in a bag with a rudimentary punch tool. Unlike today with computer controlled robot assembly, our cars were assembled by humans, so things like these snaps could have slight variations, not obvious from car to car, but enough that when replacing the boot, if Legendary had preinstalled all the snaps, some may not line up.

Mine is starting to get a little tattered as we speak. Wondering how long it took to get this from Legendary, and could you post a photo of the plastic strip that slides into the seat back? My boot cover does not have one. Appreciate it!

after ordering the boot I received it in about 4 weeks. My new boot is on the car, but luckily I still have the original boot. Attached are some photos of the plastic strip that slides in the slot at the rear of the top of the back seat.

yes, the new boot came with the strip. If you look at post#1 of this thread, there is a before and after photo. You can see at the edge of the back seat, top rear, both boots are slid into the metal slot.

could you post some pics of the piece that goes across the back of the seat that the strip on the tonneau cover slides into ? PO recovered my seats and attached the front of cover to seatback with snaps...trying to figure out what the piece I'm missing looks like, and how and where it attaches to seatback

Here you go. The top was up, but, I went out there today. This is the track that the boot slides into. The top of the seat and track are original to the car. In the photo the top is down and the boot is unsnapped and folded over for you.

this is a photo of the boot completely snapped in place. You can see the edge of the track that remains visible.
