There's two ways to do it. One is the way the FSM procedure. The other is way easier and IMHO, safer.
This isn't my picture, but it shows what you need to do. You drill 3 holes in the door panel large enough for a socket where the mounting bolts for the window motor are. Then you just unhook the plug and unbolt the motor. Then maneuver it out of the big hole in the bottom of the panel. Nothing else needs to be removed.
Hardest part is figuring out where to drill the holes, but that's just a matter of looking at it. A hole saw with the drill pushed up so it just peaks out works best.
No need to do anything else. All window adjustments stay in place. The regulator with its finger amputating spring stays right where it is, untouched. Simple as can be. I've done this a couple times now on different cars and it worked great.
