Hello all. This is a project that will require a person fluent in reading and interpreting Chrysler Parts installation instructions. Any insight will be welcomed! Best guess for intended position /area for this?

I don’t know what year and model you have, but here’s my interpretation of the instructions.

In the picture of my 68 Plymouth Fury II - Elwood, I marked up the two references as:

A - where the switch would touch the hood, in relation to the front and back of the hood.

B - The area where the bracket would attach to the torsion bar bracket on the passenger side.

The button of the switch would touch the area on the bottom of the hood somewhere in the area that I marked with a rectangle.

I find it interesting that the instructions have the switch mounted on the passenger side, but that’s my interpretation.

Looking at the graphics, as the "Center Line of the Body" is to the right, the switch would be on the passenger side of the cowl, near the slides for the torsion bar pads. Which might be a bit unusal as all of the electric looms are on the driver's side of the car. Again, the length of the wire would be important.

As this is apparently an adaptation of the simple dome light switch in the lower cowl area of the A-pillar area, it is simply a "ground" switch.

As neat as underhood lights were in the 1960s and 1970s, they DID provide "light", but also SHADOWS as the light producer was usually mounted on the rear part of the hood. The best ones were mercury switches in the lamp housing itself, to me.

Take care,

Thank you for clearing up the meaning of a few of the terms being used. Although my anxiety level is diminished somewhat, the mystery of proper switch placement remains. I purchased this kit because I enjoyed the luxury of a factory under hood light on my '69 Charger (so many moons ago) shining down from above on the drivers side of the engine, where the oil dipstick, master cylinder, battery, and power steering pump are located. My research revealed it was offered as a dealer installed option in 1970 for my Fury. The kit from Andy Bernbaum Auto Parts was EXPENSIVE but very complete. The power leads from the socket to the connector are 5 feet long, so I have a reasonable range to work with. The '70 Fury doesn't use torsion bars to hold up the hood, so even though the part number matches, I feel this unit has instructions that don't match my model year.

Ok here's my guess...due to the squared off shape of the bracket in the instructions I think the torsion bar support they're referring to is this center one...it's offset to the right of the engine compartment to begin with and they want the switch bracket installed on the right side of it....I think the instructions are for a slabside and probably don't apply to your model...the switch would contact the bottom of the hood in the area behind the hood insulation pad

Thank you for taking the time to post a visual. Now the instructions make sense. I can adapt this to my model year now that I understand the intent for earlier models. Much appreciated!

Finished product! The light fits perfectly and the switch, which grabs power from the starter relay, closes the circuit every time hood opens and opens the circuit when shut. Open hood for extended periods? Just unplug the power wire from the lamp. Thank you Old Man and Volksworld for the help!
