Ripped a hole in a perfect headliner -- what would you do???

Folks--

I'm sorry to report that last weekend I stupidly punched a hole in my car's otherwise good headliner. I was taking out the rear seat back, going from one side to the other to gradually ease it up, and suddenly it popped up into the headliner and tore about a 8-10" hole in it. What can you use to repair this rubbery mesh fabric? This is not going to be a show car; I don't mind if the repair is visible. What would you do???

On the bright side: I did find the broadcast sheet behind the rear seat.

I'd get some "iron on" adhesive and find a similar cloth and iron on a patch.

It'll look like crap and annoy you enough to get a new head liner eventually. At least it's better than the rip.

I learned a long time ago that some projects that seem quite simple may require an extra set of hands and eyes.

Even the smallest hole will tear the headliner out with the windows down, that is no small hole.

You could glue some cloth to the inside of the headliner using spray adhesive and wait for it to dry then glue the flap in place using the same method, you will see the tear still but it will all be back in place.

THanks everybody. So how much of the interior trim do I need to take out to replace it? Just the pieces with screws around the edge of the headliner, or do I need to take out the pieces that extend down the A and C pillars as well? I just want to know how much of a job this is before getting in to it. If it will involve disassembling the interior I won't do it soon; I'll probably just stick something over it.

I would use a piece of vinyl and contact cement let dry slide it in behind stick pieces together

Old material doesn't stretch very well and good chances are that it'll rip when installing it. I'd either patch up what you got or get a new one installed.They are usually about $200-250 and will take about a day to install.

i had a 68 Road Runner once that someone took a needle and thread and sewed up. Similar location to that rip never noticed it though unless I was cleaning the car.

I'd replace it though and it's probably dry rotted to rip, and rip that much from what you describe
