Our sister pub Motor Trend had an extended talk with Chrysler brand president and CEO Al Gardner, who indicated the Chrysler 300 SRT would probably be discontinued, in a move seen to bolster the Dodge brand as the performance umbrella for Fiat Chrysler after SRT was folded into Dodge in May. Gardner said that the Chrysler SRT might soldier on outside the US but here; at least, it is not selling enough units to warrant further production.

Of course with gas at $4 a gallon who's going to drive it for a commuter vehicle? It's a low middle-class car that no longer has a niche. The middle middle-class can afford higher end and usually do so and get better mileage. And the upper middle-class are driving Ferrari's so sign of the times I guess.

I think Automobile Manufacturing Exectives are as dumb as the $1,000.00 Five Iron they buy but in this case it really does make sense.

cant vote with ya on the first part about auto execs but totally respect your view.

on second part, i do vote with ya and agree car's gotta go IF they cant find some way to increase its appeal, which appears to be what they have decided IF it gets axed. its a little sad though the namesake "Chrysler" brand wont have an "executive hotrod" wearing a "300" badge...perhaps for good this time.

Around here, the "lower middle class" are driving cars like the Avenger. Middle-middle class drive Dodge 1500's and Chevy Silverados and upper middle class drive Suburbans and Expeditions. Not a Ferrari to be found. A lot of V8 300 C's but only a few SRT's around. There are quite a few Challenger and Charger R/T's.

The SRT was only a few thousand more in 2010 when I bought my RT. The fuel economy is minimal between the two. I don't think fuel is the factor.
They do say the SRT is a fair weather car with tires not to be used in winter.
If you bought the RT with the track pac option for four hundred more you got everything the SRT has except the engine. ....

I'm not trying to be derogatory but it is a fact that those vehicles are of the poor/lower middle class. Of which I've realized I am a part of. By my salary I'm still in the 99% but come in at the 85 percentile, and I don't see how I could afford a new SRT. Sorry but I really don't consider myself middle class but a member of the working poor.

Sorry To see it go to the wayside. I feel the American automotive industry has forgotten that a lot of what sales cars is dreams, the srt may be out of the price range for most people, but the image of it, teenage boys with models of it in their rooms, the desire to go down to the lot and check out a cool car is what gives that salesman an opportunity to say "why don't we look at this one over here it has the, same look and with the v6 and is more affordable". It is a shame that Fiat who throughout their history has done this many times like the fiat 8V, to show they could, to get the brand name out and discussed. Shame to see a model that inspires dropped because all they see is the numbers on the paper not that the loss in this one category means a lot more sales in this one.

Well, on the other side of the coin, GM is going to further expand into that market by making a 6 speed manual tranny and their fabulous magnetic ride control available in the 2015 Chevrolet SS.

They left the Mustang market niche once when they temporarely dicontinued the Camaro. That wasn't the best idea then.

GM really screwed up when in '96 they dropped production of their B/C body line (Caprice, Roadmaster, Caddy Brougham).
Incidently, mine (a Roadmaster) was built 2 days before the last one rolled off the line. It's now owned by a car collector.

Look at that a pop up ad for a used 2007 corvette for 30+. Something else I can't afford.

They drop like a rock in price, just wait a few more minutes. There is a neat 359 on ebay, out in Iowa right now. 903 powered, single axle. He said something about 34 pounds of boost, that sounds really high?

Translation for the rest of you:
Peterbilt with Cummins engine.
If he's really got 34 lbs of boost, he's getting about 1,000 hp.
For about 10 minutes before turning into scrap.

I have never driven a v8 Cummins but my N14 in my 94 was set at 500 HP and would pull into the low 30s. The N14 I have in my 85 359 only pulls about 27-28 and no I am not changing it drives good get 6.3 mpg and keeps head gaskets where they belong, under the heads lol.

The add claims 500hp. I thought that was a little high on the boost. I still would like it, but common sense is telling me otherwise. Not that I need a class 8 tractor hotrod. But it would be cool. Must resist. I know. They always run really good, before they blow...

Lower middle class? Have you guys ever priced an SRT 300? Well, they're 60K+++ If that's lower middle class then I'm thrilled to hear of the thriving economy.

And, $400 does not get you everything but the engine on an R/T, not even close. You can get $750 for a used Getrag all day long. I've sold/traded/given my headers, midpipes, differential, axles, shocks/struts/springs, etc. to R/T guys... Not to even mention the difference in the quality of the interior.

In 2010 Ross, in 2010..the STP option gave you almost all the SRT had except the engine......... Well, that's what they were saying on Challengertalk in 2010.........really, I could care less, the RT looks better than the SRT AND the seats...I guess it doesn't matter you aint bending on this. These 2015 Challenger interiors also look ridiculous, much like the shaker interiors but worse
