PST Kits

This is sort of an open letter to PST.

First up you cannot beat the price and the parts came in a timely manner.

Observations:

Lower ball joints come with only 1 cotter pin, this seams to be an industry standard. It takes 3 to install, if you are going to replace one why not all three.

Idler, pitman and inner tie rod ends not part of the kit. These may not wear as bad as the rest but bet in most restorations they replace it all.
For an additional cost maybe have an enhanced kit.

No torsion bar boots or clips, these need to come off to replace the lower control arm bushings, not all cars have ones that can be reused.

No sway bar bushings, these are pretty cheap and the end ones on the C-body will need to be replaced.
The inboard ones are pretty much part of the bar and on all three I looked at they were in great shape.

I only addressed the wear items as I had no plans to replace any of the hardware as all mine cleaned up nicely.

That's why I had to hand select every item across the board, from Advance, to ebay, to RockAuto to get everything.
PITA!!!
There are no kits out there that are truly "Complete! Everything you need!"...
 
That's indeed a good chance for PST to offer complete and correct sets for C-Bodys! Especially for non-residents who need it shipped around the world!
 
I asked why not 13 years ago. I don't recall the response but it seems to be a general consensus.
 
Oh the PST kit does have both upper and lower rebound bumpers (both on my car are like new).

I think if you've never worked on anything it might be confusing. I saw they didn't have the mentioned items, got everything else from rock auto, and that was that. I agree it would be nice to get it in one stop, but it's not like hunting a snipe.

Well it's a painful learning experience for a first timer.
You're saying he'd be a smarter man if we didn't give it to him in one tidy box...
 
I think if you are offering a "kit" it should be all inclusive, or at least have a tiered structure of kits.

This is like having an engine assembly kit without head gaskets but we'll include the valve cover gaskets.

It could be a pain indeed, learning curves usually suck.

I'm saying it doesn't hurt to do a little research before you buy. I looked at 3 businesses and what they had before I picked the PST kit. For what I paid for what wasn't in the kit, it wasn't a lot more. Although finding a pitman arm is proving a bit tricky. All that I've ordered were incorrect.

Whereas this may be my first time doing a “full” front end rebuild myself I did do my research, I checked the local parts places and created a spreadsheet. The ball joints alone at the local parts stores were more than the full PST kit. I knew going in that I would need to buy some more parts but there was no break with PST, those prices were about the same as the parts stores.

This post was more an observation on their kit structure and the lack of what it included.
