That's pretty damn classy! Too nice for me to own, I deserve a row boat!

I've never seen a bobtail boat before.

The Packard engine was from a WW II PT boat. It would have been one of three that powered a PT. 2500 cubes and 1500 HP @ 2100ish each with a total fuel burn of 600 GPH.

The Griffon is 2260 cube and 2400 HP +/- stock. 3000+ in go fast marine trim.

Actually the Packard engine was a direct copy of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine used in the Spitfire fighter plane. The Packard version was built to use in the P51 Mustang fighter. At 27 liters in was pretty damned big, I had one! The PT boats usually carried the Allison v12 engine, also used in US fighter planes.

Yeah, I had it in my MKV Supermarine Spitfire fighter plane. Let me guess, you forgot that too eh Stan? :poke:

You need to check your facts. The 4M2500 in no way shape or form resembles a Merlin. I posted a picture of it and if you had a one, you would know the difference. I can post a pic of a Merlin if it would help. A 4M2500 is a 40 litre engine give or take.

No you are right, I glossed over the 4m2500 part and focused on seeing the Packard part, yes this engine's design heritage is from the liberty engine, I actually had the opportunity to buy one of these too once but at $8000 for at the time it was too rich for me.

Yup, most WW2 aircraft airframes were done with chromate on both sides of the pond. Though the navy aircraft had more yellow for some reason.

The protective effect of chromate coatings on zinc is indicated by color, progressing from clear/blue to yellow, gold, olive drab and black. Darker coatings generally provide more corrosion resistance.[SUP][10][/SUP] However, the coating color can also be changed with dyes, so color is not a complete indicator of the process used.
ISO 4520 specifies chromate conversion coatings on electroplated zinc and cadmium coatings. ASTM B633 Type II and III specify zinc plating plus chromate conversion on iron and steel parts.
