I would not call the Hemi car a clone if it is an original 300-Hurst car, it is still a genuine 300-Hurst car.

The fact that a dealer swapped the engine doesn't change anything, I would want documentation of that and restore the car that way! Without the documentation there is no proof that you didn't do it yourself recently.

Heck, even if it was a day two owner mod with documentation I'd restore it that way.

Alan

The dealer-swap anecdote has been around OK since the late '70s, so I'd bet money it happened when the car was new.

I heard that it made it to Europe ah few yearz ago, Jer

I'm 95% sure that I've seen it for sale over a long period here in Denmark, advertised as "dealer installed Hemi".. It was a really fine specimen.. overall great condition. way over average.

Last I saw it was probably abt a year, maybe 1½ year ago.

Not sure it sold here, or maybe to Sweden.

I guess that's why some of us lean towardz Blondez and otherz towardz brunettez and the occasional Red Head. It really doesn't matter if the swap waz made at a Dealership or under ah shade tree. If it didn't leave the factory with that 426 in it it's not a legitimate car az defined by the 300 club and the other 485+1 are no matter what you call it be it Yenco or Mr Norm or what value iz placed on it! 'Tiz what 'Tiz, ah made up car. I just use the term Clone which iz somewhat generic I guess but what else fitz az well? Jer

Would you call a Mr. Norm's Dart GSS 440 a "clone"? It was a legitimate offering from a Chrysler dealership. Same with Shelby Mustangs, Yenko Camaros, and many other dealer offerings. Are Hurst cars themselves "clones", as long as we are going down THAT road??? To me, a dealer-installed option IS factory, whether it be a heater, radio, or a Hemi. The 300 Hurst ragtop with the Hemi is a dealer-modified Chrysler 300 Hurst ragtop. For that matter, is ANY sunroof-equipped car "factory"??? They were all done by ASC, and off the Chrysler assembly line.

Yenkos were mostly COPO orders built on the assembly line at Chevrolet btw after they established a Name stirring up enough interest to have a Batch of cars built through Central Office Production Orders. They added a couple Stickers and some other minor items.

O.K. Patrick. Letz split the hair by saying Factory Built or Factory Authorized. Either way, That Hemi convertible started life at that dealership only in the mind of the guy that had $1200-$1500 (at the time) in hiz pockets to do an engine swap and call it good but it still doesn't fit the criteria I just stated above. If the owner waz standing in front of me and ask me what I thought of his Hurst I'd simply say nice car but it's not a Legitimate Hurst, it's just made to look like one. I'm done with this thread Pal. Remember what I said earlier about how we all pick a mate and the color of their hair iz only one criteria involved? I think we've milk this cow 'til shez dry don't you? Jer

67 68 Yenko's went to Don Yenko's dealership with I think 327s then he installed 427s but 69s were just COPOS that he slapped on some Yenko badging.

Jerry, no need to get your pecker slammed in a door over this, I'm just asking questions. And if we are going to apply certain criteria to a car, then that same criteria needs to be consistent across the board??? Dont'cha think? Pal?

Hands down the most expensive C Body on the planet. If it sells anywhere near asking this could be a game changer.

Unfortunately, Fred, I don't think this auction is going to result in giving us any new info on the current market.

Stan is that because you don't think it will sell near the asking price? It would surprise me if it did but if it did I think it would capture a lot of attention and represent a new benchmark. It would certainly affect the market for all Hurst cars and there would be a trickle down to all other C Bodies.

I think it's because the auction is going to end without anybody hitting the BIN button.
We'll only know what happened with this car when it shows up For Sale again in the future.
Cars in that stratosphere travel around at a height we commoners aee unable to catch our breath at.

Don't limit yourself commando1.

I'll tell you how much it sold for when it's all over.

Game changer!!! For what? Since it is a special Hurst, which has little relationship with other C bodies, I don't see it except for another one of a kind unique and special car. None of the cars we have are in that category.

I'd like to say that I wouldn't give up my Imperial for this car and I'd consider it every bit as special and I couldn't care less who agrees with me.

And I'm just trying to answer questionz to the best of my knowledge and ability Patrick. Little willie iz safe and unharmed and this whole conversation iz becoming ah chuckle trust me. They're are however ah couple 1,000 folkz not even pumping air anymore and another couple 1,000 including me that will never accept that 300 convertibe with its black interior and 426 engine az anything but what it iz which iz a made up car. You and I have a difference of opinion ergo my reference to blondz and brunettez. In closing I'll thro' another bit of truth out there. Did jah know that the 1st three Hurst's were produced and sent out to the dealerz and sold with crank up door windowz and the other 482+1 got power windowz 'cuz driver and passenger were both scrappin' their knucklz on the leather seats upin' or downin' the door glass? I can't make this stuff up,lol. Happy Trailz, Jer
