The future of trucking

Well no one will need to work, you will be issued a certain amount of credits per month to live off and that's it. What will control the size of such a population will be the amount of sustainable resources. Utopia? I don't think so, but then again, isn't the concept of Heaven really like this? No more work, do what you want. Nothing to worry about, everything's taken care of for you.
I won't be given anything! I've been watching a lot of the Alaskan survival shows so I can go back to living off the land!! Call me Damond crocket!

That is what retirement is supposed to be like after breaking your balls all your life.
I'm at the very, very end of a generation that has this lifestyle. Everybody after me? They are F%$#ed.

It's coming and we cant stop it.

not a truer summary statement of a complex topic.

I think we can have a good debate about "when" ... but debating "if" (i know none of you so far are debating "if') some of these changes are coming isn't worth the time.

I am just looking to find a way to "profit" (in terms of money made, or comfort and happiness achieved, quality of life improved, etc.) from the changes in transportation technology.

the "smart money" seems to be that commercial trucks are gonna go autonomous, on a wide-usage basis, before personal vehicles.

unfortuately (for commercial drivers) there is some ruthless economic logic that makes this assumption hold water...and you guys already pointed it out i think.

There will be freight transport autonomous vehicles that will go from a programmed PT. A to PT. B.
There will be trucks with drivers that will deliver that freight....

The variables are infinite when making a delivery and there will never be a computer powerful enough to handle a delivery.

Ruthless economics!!! If that isn't one of the best descriptions of human history, I don't know what is!!

i take no credit of authorship for the statement :D

its kinda a fact though that "economics" (one system in which self-interested humans interact with one another) results in "winners" and "not-winners".

its a "concept" that you can trace back to the first "men" (no matter how one thinks we came to be on this planet) trying to figure out who was "in charge" of the local watering hole.

"self-interest" may have played a role in the outcome, if there was a difference of opinion that needed resolution, between those ancient men.

still happening today to be sure.

Right now we have what is called "linear" computers that do millions of calculations one after the other and with each calculation another variable is entered that produces its own numerous number of calculations. Up to now scientists have been working to make computers faster and faster to handle more and more calculations. Yes they are reaching the limits of that style of computer technology.
BUT the new field of quantum computers blows all that away and they are making real progress in this field. This new generation of computers will make "Deep Blue" look like an abacus by comparison. Whats the new parameter? It's simple, a quantum computer can do ALL calculations at once, in an instant. Yes the computers capable of out thinking and out doing a human mind on so many levels are on their way and is why people like Stephen Hawking have been raising their voice against this new artificial intelligence.
As an example, even the simplest quantum computer could break all secure security codes in all locations basically within seconds. Nothing would be safe from such technology, nothing could be kept safe. Whatever passwords are used, whatever login names, none of it would slow down the new computers. Everything would be open to access because of this ability to do all calculations at once.
And this is just the beginning. As i have read a number of times recently, we are at the cusp of a technological revolution about to happen world wide. None of us are ready and none of us really has any idea of the ramifications. Not even the smartest scientists of the likes of Hawking.

I think your about 10 years ahead of the curve. But yeah, your right the end is in sight for any paid retirement accounts. Healthcare is a really big elephant, along with immigration in the room.

That is F***ing amazing!!!
They will think their way into not having to do any work and then teach humans how to do their work for them.

I could see it running along side of the train tracks completely isolated. With a track set up like this, but not on a public road.

Intermodal, piggy back, rail container makes more sense than a truck that drives itself on public highways to a parking lot outside of town to be unload reload by a driver.

Speakin' 'bout our Mexican neighborz Commando. Didjah know they've been giving computerized CDL tests in Spanish in Texas for 20 yearz that I'm aware of? Only problem iz that they keep running 4 way stopz down there out in the pucker brush 'cuz they don't say ALTO. And yes again sir, I can't make this stuff up. I witnessed it for the first time when I've gone in to renew my class A in '95 and just shake my head paid my renewal feez and get the hell outah there!

I don't know if I'll pay the extra fees to keep my CDL A next renewal time.
I look at the spurs up on the wall getting rusty, my horse died a while ago, and mama needs me at the ranch, so....

My Friend, Az you well know they change the rulez just for the Haz-Met endorsement alone az often az you and I change our skivvez. How long do you think it'll be before we see the mushroom cloud that will take all living thingz back to where the only thing surviving livez and can burrow under ground. You call 'um palmetto bugz down there. We just call 'um frickin' Cock Roaches.

This truck will probably be built by Diamler down in Mexico like all its other trucks. I'm not sure if Freightliner is owned by Diamler but I do know they make their trucks.

The first time I saw one of them super sized suckers, I said, How'd a beetle that size get in and my wife said that's no beetle, that's a cockroach. Never saw one as big as a turtle before...
