O.K. just putting this out there so its clear what I am looking at. My first car was a 1974 Imperial and I have wanted another for years. I am familiar with the PITA of the rear discs, but in all but the lowest mileage garage queens that is probably a subtraction in selling price. Even in the mid 80's I couldn't get the park brake shoes and hardware.

My goal is a weekend cruiser, not a commute car. My priorities are: leather and clean interior... do not want to have to find that missing piece that matches. 440 engine, yes 400's are good, want the 440 even if its only a build core now. I am not a fan of the age related vinyl top issues, rust bubbles under vinyl is a major detraction as is a top that has sat in place and rotted so I have to wonder what its going to be like when replaced. No vinyl, money reduced, I could live with... I have done convertible tops before, I am willing to try this. Rust in general is not on any one's wish list... I will avoid most structural and visible rust through. I'm not stuck up about rust, I'm a second rate mud slinger and a third rate welder... spent the summer of my childhood gluing the family trickster back together with bondo...by the time I was 12, I did for some of the neighbors too. Thank you PA state inspection, learned early that I did not want to be a bodyman. Color matters, but isn't a deal breaker. I would pay a premium for a color I real like and I wouldn't disregard any car based on color alone.

Price vs. condition vs. attraction... I love the idea of the 3000 mile car, but I would double its mileage in the first few months just getting it home and showing it off. There are still very nice examples of these cars out there, I knew so many people who bought one thinking it was an investment as the era died, they were a bad investment then and I don't expect it to be a good one now. But bought for love, nothing else matters... single digit fuel economy, poor resale value and unlikely to ever recover repair expenses.

I am cheap. I don't flip cars. I work crazy hours sometimes and don't travel well so I may go months before I get to look at something not in my backyard. I am realistic and not fixated on one year, color, etc. except leather... not worth trying to replace an interior on one of these. I prefer 4 door or maybe 2 door hardtop, but I wouldn't rule out the Crown roof option.

All of us Formal owners are now trying to come up with a plausible sales pitch and a price tag... :D

Just curious. 4 digits or 5 on the $$$?

Look no further......

One of members here on FCBO (Patrick) is selling his 1978 NYB Salon for a VERY REASONABLE price. It is a unique and a very rare Salon that is in excellent condition and is a meticulously maintained Formal. It doesn't have leather but could be swapped easily with donor seats. It does have a 440, working manual A/C (desired A/C system). The Lean Burn has been properly converted. You could literally fly to OKC and DRIVE IT back to Orlando without a single worry. The guys on this forum have known Patrick for a long time and can vouch that this is one of the nicest turn key Formal's available on the planet. BTW, the car was recently used in a movie....Heaven's Rain.

I would find it a bit of a stretch for any of these to bring 5 digits in a reasonable market place... maybe the 3000 mile car at BJ or someplace silly. I don't have any ability to predict the classic car market, or I would filp cars. I think very nice examples are mid 4 digit range. I stopped my bid on a triple black '74 a few months ago at $4500 when they announced just prior to bidding "no brakes" and have experienced a mixture of relief and regret ever since. I had planned to limit out at $6000 as the car didn't run, but, was my holy grail Formal. I just couldn't mentally adjust in the few seconds the action company gave and I was over the internet on a live auction... sweet car went for $5750.

Patrick66 has a sweet ride there and it has caused me to pause and reevaluate several times. I am not a great negotiator so I make a clear limit mentally before I get started. Patrick is tickling the limits of my willingness financially and the lack of leather means I would have to find, ship and replace a perfectly fine interior just to make it what I want. I kinda hate to butcher a clean machine just for my amusement, not that its never happened.

My very fond memories of my car have always been tempered with regret for not saving a perfect leather interior that I loved...car was wrecked when I got it, put it back the on road, wrecked it again and traded it for next car. a couple months later the entire driveline was in use in my friend's car... but the poor imperial was on blocks in a field, victim of farm kids who needed something to kill.

Because of these thoughts I have opted to not jerk Patrick's chain over a car I wont buy. It is an awesome machine and I do hope it gets love wherever it goes.

I have to agree Patrick's car is sweet but the 4door just doesn't work for me, the interior I could live with for sure.

If you look at the side profile, especially windows down, there is a hard top look that just can't be beat. The 4 doors have it, the 2 doors have just a little less of it. Its the crown roof option (no back windows) that doesn't have it, and I'm not entirely ruling them out... just adjusting the mental calculator. Crating and shipping a nice set of leather seats alone makes that a poor option, unless you know how to do it cheaper than I do. Did I mention I'm cheap?

Nope two too many door handles, I would do a 4 door for the right price like <500. I understand cheap.

I appreciate the plug for my car, guys! Hopefully, it'll sell locally. That makes things easy.

So Guesswein is finally dusting those cars off and cleaning house.
Must have a buyer for that Dealership way out on the outskirts of the Frontier.

I doubt it... they just bumped the price on that one $2k in the last month... I try to keep track of what they're doing because I have heard several stories.

So here is a thread from not long after I started here... I found the pics of the 74 Imperial I passed not too long before I joined...

The twins were so perfect for me...

Thanks again Mr C

I'm going to skip marking it sold... I'm still watching for parts and I just might grab the right parts car... for the parts car...

So 3 are not enough. If your going to corner the market do it with 4 doors and sell me the 2 door:poke:
That deal isn't on the table... but you can drive her if you ever get to Florida... say the next Garlits show...

Right place, right car... I could do something stupid... Management would **** herself if I did though, so it needs to be worth it.
