Good story on our son`s 1966 Polara 880

Hi Marty,

That's a Great car! I didn’t know Dodge was still using the 880 name in 66. I’ve always been very interested in 880’s because it’s such an interesting transition. Starting from a 62 Newport with a 61 Pioneer front clip and different molding. Also slightly modified 62 Newport taillights to add a round light which was Dodge’s “signature” in 62. In 65 Dodge had three full size cars, Polara, Custom 880, Monaco. I thought that was where it ended. Is there more to the 880 story? Was this only available in Canada? Looking at the US brochures, they only show the Polara, Polara 500 and Monaco in 66.

That's a really nice car, I'd be proud too if it were mine.

Nice write up, sound like he found a good one, looks great.

Thank you all for the kind words, much appreciated!

Yes, that is Jim and Jerry`s website, they do a good job and interesting write ups.

I think in Canada in 1966 Dodge offered a Polara, Polara 440 and Polara 880, different from the US line up. All Canadian models got the Plymouth dash and interior.

Since that article we did a fun trip down to Cut Bank, MT for the Montana Fun Weekend in August, we drove my wife`s 1965 Polara 500, a US built car we bought in Arizona in 1990.

Thanks for the info on the Polara 880. As my father use to say, "The older I get, the more I realize how little I know." :sSig_thanks:

Interesting about the Plymouth interior. I saw a Baumont SD a couple years ago at a local cruise in. Didn't even know they existed. It's a GM but it was a Chevelle with more chrome and a Pontiac interior. The emblem was a Pontiac emblem with two Canadian clover leafs stacked on top.

I had 2 Pontiac Beaumonts in the early seventies, the dressed up models were called SD (Sport Deluxe) and I loved those cars. We had Chevelles in Canada also but these were the Pontiac answer to the US made Tempest. Kind of a hybrid with the same dash as a Tempest but with big block hood etc like the Chevelle. My 67 was a 396 TH auto and the 66 ragtop was a 283 powerglide. These are the only pictures I could muster up.
