I finally got the 1978 Newport on the road today. I had a day off today and replaced the transmission and a new torque converter. Only drove her about 5 miles and filled the gas tank while I was on the mini cruise. The brakes are not up to my safety standards so it'll be a few days until I have some time off to replace the brakes. I'm replacing everything on the brakes except the steel lines. New rotors, pads, bearings, seals, calipers, hoses, shoes, drums. wheel cylinders, hardware, adjusters, master cylinder and the dang booster. A lot of air leaking out of the booster when I step on the brakes. I'm going to rebuild the original lockup txsm (yep, I said lockup) and see if I can find a new lockup converter down the road. I haven't started the Newport since March and she fired right up. It still needs a ton of other work before going to Carlisle. Covert the Lean Burn to Mopar Performance Electronic ignition, Eddie carb, dual exhaust and Flowmaster's.

Yes it is.....

I've been so busy at work this year and haven't been able to get started on it. It was relatively quick. I had it out in a little more than an hour and had it back together about 3 hours later. Phone calls from work slowed me down a little while putting her back together.

She's in good hands, I have faith it will all come together...

I thought of Mary....

She was the original owner who is long gone now. I bet she would be happy her car is finally back on the road today after sitting for 25 years.

I'll also have new tires and road wheels on her very soon. I'll start small road tests on her and you can bet I'll take a trip to Carlisle way before July so I'll know for sure she can handle the short trip from Maryland in July.

Congrats Bob! Glad to hear its going well!

We need more pics of that beauty! I say bring her down here to FL for a shake down test.. lol

What are the odds that you could drive that two days before Christmas in your part of the country??

It's suppose to be 75 or more tomorrow.

As long as there is no salt......I'll drive all winter. LOL!
