Yes, I'm back. I experienced some life changing events that broadsided me literally out of nowhere the end of last summer. **** happens is an BIG understatement. It was tough. Things have just about settle down now. I'm living with it..so no need to get all into it. It is what it is. I still have my car (70 Chrysler Newport coup) but lots has happened there also. I have a story to tell (about the car) if there's any interest. If not that's cool too. I buggered out of here abruptly and I know that was kind of disrespectful..but stuff hit me fast and furious and l lost almost all interest in cars for awhile there. So hope I can find some forgiveness. My new handle is 70_NPORT now. I lost the password to 70NPORT, and astonishingly couldn't get help in getting around that. Doesn't matter now I suppose. I would't have come back if I did like hanging out with the people here ; ).

Ps. One thing hasn't changed. I still hate fins with a passion.

Welcome back! Sorry life went sideways, I think life can do that. So, whats new with the car?

You have been missed, start talking, we are listening.
Welcome back bud!

Thanks for the warm welcome back guys. I was a little scared that I was gonna be read the riot act; but I wanted to come back because I like it..so I figured I'd just do it.

Well....At time it was raining crap for me; I had a lifter go bad on my at around 75mph out on the interstate. I swear everything was humming along fine. All of the sudden I start hear thing slight ticking sound. It was very slight but I know EVERY sound my car makes when its feeling good, lol. This sound wasn't one of them. I got back home it was very loud...car running like **** (lifter was collapsed AND wiped the lobe).

Around Thanksgiving I got out of the car to run into the house. Just as I was getting out I got this light wiff of something burning. I turned around (I was standing in front of the car) and saw fire coming out of the the left defog vent. There is (was) a connector behind the radio that as best as I can surmise melted enough so that the copper conductors finally came in contact with each other. The fire finished melting the connector and destroyed part of the defog vent.

All this happens at the worst possible time. I pushed the car into the garage and let it sit. I was disgusted with it. I can't begin to tell you how much blood sweat and tears I've put out on this car just so I can drive it safely and presentably. I wanted to just flat bed it away and be done with it.

If that wasn't enough the fire damaged the windshield. Cracked and burned it. Useless. I had to find another one. I did. However I also found some other things that I wish I hadn't now.

Anyways...I have pics of everything. That's one thing I always do. Take pics of my misadventures.

The thought of a fire in one of my cars is horrifying! I'm glad it wasn't worse and at least it was in your own driveway(I know that ain't much).
So is it back to roadworthy yet?

Yeh. It was parked right in front of the garage door, and all I could see was the fire spreading to the house. I was freaking out. Luckily that didn't happen. So after all is said and done; I need to run it through inspection again because it has a failed sticker on it. I am looking at QQ tags to get around the state inspection drill; but then all the ins. cos. that offer that keep telling me I can drive my car a certain amount of miles per year...and its LOW. Its not a problem now because I work from home. However if that changes it could be a problem. Sigh...I just want to drive my car but it seems these days there is all kinds of crap coming up to prevent car guys from driving their there cars. Maybe its unrealistic now for me to expect to drive it everyday. Still I just can't get any joy from driving some Japanese (or German) econo box. It just isn't the same. I know there are other guys who feel that way about their cars whether they be show cars or daily drivers (like mine).

I have pics that I'm gonna post as soon as I get them organized...prob today or tomorrow.

Gary! Welcome back! You should know you can come and go as you please around here no explanations needed. Bummer about the car, but that really is the least of things in life. It is a hobby, but as a DD when they go south it's like a game of "pile on". Catch up on the thread reading and enjoy!

Hey Dude...thanks for the welcome. LOTS of catching up to do..and more members too.

Gary, call Condon and Skelly in Moorestown for your insurance needs for that car. As long as you have a garage and another registered vehicle you should be good.

Ok. I think I remember that now....it was funny.
I'm sorry I've been through some harrowing stuff and its hard to recall stuff from far back at times. I'm sure it will comeback. But thanks Stan ;)
