What wheels would look good on a Formal NY'er? Factory road wheels would look good of course but I'm thinking other wheels or aftermarket wheel choices are limited. I have Signet DSR II P235/75R15's with a 1" whitewall on it now. I think the 1" white wall looks good on Formal NY'ers. What are your recommendations for tires too?

There is ONE wheel and one wheel only (besides the super hard to find '78 Salon Wheel), Bob.
You know how I feel about this...:yes_no:

And stay with the Signets. The 1" is appropriate.

Second choice, because the Road Wheels are all being hoarded in Phoenix, is the Lincoln Town Car Turbine wheel. These are plentiful.
Like that WW, too. Classy.

Those wheels look very good! What years did Lincoln use those wheels.

God, they were used for years. Your best bet is to just Google lincoln turbine wheels
Lincoln also had a "snowflake" wheel that was also used for years that would look nice if powder coated.

Ha ha! They were out of place for sure! Not really sure which wheels would look right on the '78... They would have to compliment the classiness of the rest of the car tho. It looks pretty good the way it is!

1978 NYB,

I wouldn't change a thing. Your factory wheel covers/ white walls look great. If you want a wider wheel, you can get a set of 15x7 or wider mopar steelies and transplant the wheel covers/ tires. That way you get the "look" of the wider wheel and still look stock and...dignified.

Tire recommendation- pretty much any modern tire with a white wall should suit normal driving. Modern tire technology is pretty good nowadays. Formals look positively terrible without white walls. You're not autocrossing are you? If you're using the car for pleasure use and your tires are not dry rotted/ bald; I'd save my money and enjoy it as is. My 10 cents.

Thanks! I'll probably leave it as is. The wheel covers that I have on it looks good. I have P235/75R15's on it. They ride and handle good. The only problem is the speedometer is off by 7mph. When I'm driving 55 (speedometer) the GPS says 62.

How does that happen? My Imperial has the same problem. Just replace the sprocket?

I believe it's the difference in the tire height from the original factory tire size.

Correct, the 235/75/R15 is slightly larger than the old J78 15 size. I also run 235s and experience the same speedo error you describe. No biggie in my opinion.

There are different speedometer drive gears that go inside your transmission. There is a chart where you match your tire diameter to your rear end ratio to find the correct speedometer drive. They are expensive depending on who you can find that has the correct gear you need. Usually around 80 bucks. They are obsolete items. Being anal, I do the change of course. It's a curse...
It's all these stupid little things like this that I do that always makes me upside down on my cars even more than other c body guys.

Ah, I didn't realize it was a taller tire. I'll have to see what's on mine.

I put a 33" tire on my RAM & the speedo is still dead on. I expected it to be off.
