Newer model Mopar radios in our old cars...is it possible

You guys probably did it already I'm slow. I was wondering if I could put one of the newer radios with cd or cassette into my car. I realize the harness is different, but I've seen some adaptor types. I would really hate to cut up the wiring if it wasn't necessary.

At the very least you have to abandon all the existing speaker wiring because you have to run new two conductor wiring for the new speakers. The OEM speakers which I guaranty you are fried are single lead common ground.
You also will have to splice into your headlight switch for the day/night mode on the display to work. You then can use a Scosche adaptor to hook up your instrument panel lighting, and power lead. You will also have to splice into a the battery circuit for the radio memory.
It's NOT Plug 'n Play.

What model and manufacturer of that radio Stan.

I don't know what I want to do with mine yet. Really just want to get a hook up so my Ipod will plug in. I have 15,000 songs on it. I have a set of Pioneer 6x9 TS-A6956 and getting a set of Pioneer TS-G1344R for the front. I'm thinking of using the RediRad RR100-N convertor that BlueFury used in his 300 and run it through the original am/fm/cb radio. I don't listen to am/fm radio stations at all.

There's a gazillion of these on ebay.
Mine (cd only) was said by the ebay seller to come out of a 90 Sebring.

Any Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep radio with this style mounting will bolt right in with zero mods. They were used up until the early 90's. Get the one with the Casette player because you then can use the adapter cartridge that you can plug your ipod into.

There were three types.
1. Cassette player only (earlier models)
2. Casette & CD (middle years)
3. CD only (later models)

There's a guy on ebay that sells them where he modifies them with an ipod input. Ex$pen$ive and I've seen posts where he doesn't wire into the pre-ampcircuitry properly. You can also Google DIY ipod modifications for these radios.

Stan I've found a few like yours....this was a wire harness diagram I found. The antenna plug connection had me confused. Is there an adaptor to work with the new radio. I have already installed new speakers because the others were completely shot. Can I match the old harness plug to the appropriate portions the new plug needs? I hate to chop up something if I don't have to.

There is no adapter to allow you to plug your existing system harness into the later radio. What you do need are the adapters that plug into the later radio and have all the color coded leads coming out of the plugs. What you don't want is the adaptor kit that allows a new aftermarket radio to plug into the later system harness. The wording of the ebay one you linked to is too confusing to tell which one that is.
I'll have to wait til the morning to read the. pdf doc.

Exactly..... And the resale value of these cars = jack-**** anyway so why not put a decent stereo in it. I'm pretty sure that Ma Mopar wouldn't mind just this once.

To a lot of people, a modern aftermarket radio with all the strobes, blingy displays, psychedelic lighting, and 952 unidentifiable buttons just don't look good in a classic luxury car. ESPECIALLY a single DIN head unit in a 1 1/2 DIN opening.

I am running a modern radio in my car, it just has the stock look. All new modern internals, AM/FM (factory), 45W per channel x 4; RCA jacks for CD changer and/or MP3 player. I run my iPod whenever I drive through two 6x9 speakers in the factory locations. I could have run more speaker but didn't want to sacrifice the fresh air vents in the kick panels. It sounds great. I probably could have taken it a couple steps further but I just wanted a good sounding system with the top down. I achieved that and did not have to sacrifice the factory appearance.

Nope. No way. Our openings are 1 1/2 DIN and NOBODY makes a 1 1/2 DIN radio anymore. Pioneer USED to but it's long gone.
