So, at the moment, my contract is nearly up here at CBC, I'm not sure if they will renew it or what the future entails.....I got an email this morning, and now I'm stunned....I honestly don't even know what to do right now...

Well many of us have been in the same spot before. Since you do not have an offer yet from your current employer, take a chance and have a meeting with them and discuss your options. If your employer does want to renew your contract, you have a negotiation tool, and if he does not, you have an option for employment.

Do whatever it takes to get an interview after doing your due diligence that the offer is legit. Contact The Guild DIRECTLY to insure it came from THEM.

A gazillion employment scams out there where they get your name and all you are offered is jobs at Jiffy Lube or given "Once in a lifetime opportunity to get in on the ground floor" for a small investment.

Job ops are where the REAL cynic comes out in me. Listen to Pop on this one.

Can't hurt to have a look see, the kind of experience you would get in that type of shop is priceless. Be aware, however, you must be a team player and willing to start on the bottom rung of very tall ladder. Many moons ago when I was your age, I would jump at the chance to sweep their floors if I could just watch and learn.

I'm used to starting at the bottom, I kind of like it down here, I'm the type of guy that after being gone for over a year from the shop I started at, I stopped in a week or so ago and had a beer with the boys, I also keep in touch with everyone I've ever worked with...

Wow.... Yea, get to that interview....

OK, now for my two cents about careers..

Take EVERY job interview that comes up. There's a couple reasons.... Even if it's a job you aren't interested in. That sounds crazy, but one thing often leads to another and they may have something that you are interested in. Second, it gives you practice for the next interview.

Obviously, dress nice, firm hand shake and look in the eye with a smile. Show interest in what they are doing and be positive. If they ask why you left an old job, just say that you left for a better opportunity. Never be negative or run down an old employer. Again, be positive about everything. Follow up with some sort of thank you for the interview.

I've been on both sides of the interview desk.... This stuff works.
