So as a few people know in 1971 the Fury III and the Sport Fury had an option like the 1970 S/23. Really it is a 1971 Sport Fury “S/23”. It was not openly advertised and it seems to be impossible to find a picture of a car with the option. Does anyone have a picture or own one of the NON-GT 1971 strobe option cars that has not been repainted?

I’d love to see how the strobes are supposed to appear on the car and if they were just the vertical strobes or the hood set as well. I know there was no “GT” callout for sure and after speaking to a few older dealership owners I was told they only had verticals and not on the hood... would really love to see a picture of one though.

My understand is just the side strobe stripes. Nothing on the hood. Just to show how close Plymouth came to offering the S/23 again in 1971 take a look at this:

This is a metal applique' for the trunk key hole surround bezel/emblem. It is made exactly like the 71 GT applique'.

Sorry, not for sale or at least not for sale for anything less than 4 digits before the decimal point.

Post some additional photos. The gold works on the green.

Wow ... i never knew that it was an option for these fury,s.......
Nice ........ if it was my car i would go for other wheels/tires.

I’ve got 2 sets of rims! The black set is a newer set of “**** it” tires. The others are the original 70’s road wheels with bias ply white wall.

I’ll take a look through the old eBay archives to see. I saw a Fury III with the GT wheels for sale about 3 years ago that the guy refused to sell the rims off, but it had rubber vertical trim.

As far as the 71 S/23 option goes; I got a call back from a friend who worked at the factory making the Fury in October 1970 and they cancelled the S23 option halfway through production. He told me all the badges were swapped to the standard Sport badge and they pushed a bunch of the cars out as fleet or dealer display cars. I only thought to ask because FURYGT posted the picture of the tag... Turns out I know the guy who has the remaining collection of S23 tags.

Without proof from Chrysler aside from having those tags and advertising it’s impossible to tell for sure how many were either ordered or got out. I do know he acquired the lot with 9 S/23 tags and that there was a few other parts that distinguished an S/23 from the standard Sport or GT.

this is a p29 car ... s/23 and gts were p23 cars...what am l missin here?

Perhaps that the strobe stripe option was available on both 23 & 29 roof Sport Furys in 1971.

It was surprisingly; my car however is not an S23 or S29 car. It’s just a Sport fury with molding delete and some gran fury options. The production for them was cancelled before a single car left the line, there are a few pieces of trim and badges that do still exist. I thought it would be cool to make the car Chrysler was going to and cancelled. My guess for cancelling S23/29 options was to boost GT sales. If you could get the GT appearance without the GT price and a smaller motor during a gas crisis.... would have killed the tiny GT sales that there were.

While the S/23 was cancelled, you could build your own with the stripes and wheels etc. on a Sport Fury. My guess is that the blue formal roof that looks like a GT was probably a factory strobe stripe car as that car was around on the original C Body Dry Dock website 25 years or so ago.
