Hi everybody. I am hoping to collect some opinions from you folks who have managed to conquer this age old problem. There will be no wrong opinions. What worked for one person may not have worked for another person simply due to environmental differences between the two cases, but I just wanted to see who knows what about this devastating malady. Although there can be no wrong answers, I believe I will stay away from opinions involving Battery Acid, Nuclear Radiation or Sandpaper. -MY CASE: I picked up a really nice '68 Fury Sedan as a parts car. Someone else got to it before I could make up my mind about it. They only wanted to rip the 383 and tranny out of it. So, I got the rest of the car(cass) at a deep discount. The car had a beautiful black interior...almost flawless. However, the car got put into a Reefer Trailer for safe keeping. When I finally got to it, the black interior had been attacked by a spiderweb-like, white mildew...and it stinks. The Black, blister-like mold is NOT present. This mildew is on everything.., vinyl, plastic, painted metal, chromed metal, and fabrics. Reefers are inherently damp, dark and warm(when sitting)..,viol-la..,mildew. I have placed the car into a regular van trailer (A Dry Van) to not only protect it, but to cook it. 100-110 degrees on most sunny days. As with any car that I acquire that has been sitting outside, I place it into a dry van trailer and then set off a couple of Raid Fumigators (the Gas, not the Fogger Mist). I let it stew for a week or two before doing a thorough airing out. I wonder if there is a gaseous mildew killing agent available? -I do not have the time right now to deal with the mildew and so I am trying to just arrest it. ANY ADVICE towards, first stopping it in its tracks or secondly, doing the final kill and cleanup/restoration will be greatly appreciated. -Thanks in advance for any of your time that you are able to devote towards writing your experiences in response to my request. "...trying to save them all..." -Not Right.

Why not try using a pine oil based disinfectant like you'd see at the supermarket?

If the mildew is only on the surface I would imagine it'd simply wipe off using either (or similar) product. You'd have a pleasant pine smell to replace the mildew one.

Good luck.

Of course bleach is best for killing mold and mildew, but you don't want to use it on the fabrics, even diluted. I would suggest a mix of warm water with some white vinegar and maybe a small amount of liquid soap. I would even do a final clean up with water and a little tea tree oil. If you have a carpet cleaner ( or you can rent one) I'd add vinegar or tea tree to the cleaning solution too. Good luck!

I am a fan of ammonia and white vinegar mixed with water.

Test in an inconspicuous area first.

I’ve used this stuff : Lloyds Mold + mildew remover on the interior of my boat and it worked great and didn’t damage any of the surfaces I like it.

Thank you. Not Right.

The second video with the Honda Civic May be the best way to kill the mildew.
Anti-Microbial spray over everything and then a de-humidifier and heat to kill the rest.
Yup........they really put the technology to that poor red Civic.....ewwww, what a mess it was. Thanks, Not Right
