If I had known how easy it is to do it on line I would've done it years ago. Insured both the 48 DeSoto and my 66 New Yorker with Haggerty. Took 20 minutes on line and within an hour I was approved and had insurance cards in an e mail. Very reasonable rates and the didn't balk at my valuation of either car. Now I can drive without worrying about the idiots on the roads.

I presume you got "agreed value" coverage? Any pictures needed? I need to do that on my "fleet" of vintage, semi-worthless (but getting less so) cars. Haggerty has agents "everywhere", it seems, these days.

Yes, agreed value. I said the DeSoto was worth $25000 and the NY'er was worth $15000 and they "agreed" No pictures asked for.

You won’t be sorry, I’ve been with them for years. A Michigan company in fact!

I've used them for several years now with no complaints. They did ask me for one picture of each of the cars I insured though but didn't make me jump through a bunch of hoops or get an appraisal.I gave them a value for each of the cars and they were fine with that but they do have a through database of values for pretty much every type of collector cars so they would likely question anyone who gives them a figure that's above the normal range for their kind of car in the condition the picture shows.

If they ask for a picture of the Desoto I might have some "splainin" to do. Lots of patina and the modern mechanicals won't show up in a picture.

Hagerty is great. Very reasonable rates. They asked pics and especially documentation pics of my Omni GLHS as they were not familiar with the car. No problem. My Fury got a stone crack in the windshield the second year I owned it. The cost to replace the windshield was more than I had payed them in coverage at that point. No problem. They covered it. Great company.

I also have Hagerty and am satisfied with their service. The agents have always been helpful. Last year when I renewed my policy, the agent asked about one of my other vehicles. You list all your other vehicles, I guess to be sure that you have a real daily driver. I also have a 2004 Corvette convertible that has less than 20,000 miles. I actually use my Chrysler more often. He told me I could insure the Vette as a classic since I only drive it like a classic. I saved over $850 a year going that route.

You're just getting around to insuring them now?!?!

Doesn't a policy with Hagerty require that they are stored in a garage?

In that case you probably want to keep any receipts you might have for the parts and/or labour that went into the modern mechanicals as well as having some pictures of those, just in case.

Has anyone totaled a classic car and collected? I worked in industry and had numerous claims with insurance companies and in fact several lawsuits to collect and am currently involved in attempting to collect on a claim. Insurance companies are great when you insure with them and then when you have a major claim, they tell you why it is not covered or not covered for the value stated at the time of writing the insurance. I have difficulty believing they are going to pay off a major claim based upon a picture or just one's word. If that's the case, my car just tripled in price and I am ready to sign and pay the premium!

Almost.

I say almost because the other guys insurance cannot total you if you have an agreed value - stated value policy. My ‘66 Dart got whacked and I went down to farmers claim center to settle up. The girl came out snickered at my car and then went in to get my check. She totaled my car and handed me a check for $600. I laughed and said you’d better add about $4000 dollars if you want to junk it cause it’s a stated value policy. She went back inside and an adult wrote me a check for $3800. I had three estimates each for about $4000. They do work guys and it’s the best kept secret in auto insurance. My insurance has been with State Farm since 1984.

Here in Ontario there's a special form but regular auto insurance will not cover us for agreed value.
In fact they don't want these cars on their system since every single one of them is a dangerous and outdated auto.
Everyone knows we are driving death traps that are not in as good or better condition than the factory offered when built back in the day.
No... we let them rust, brakes gone out and not fix them, steering is worn beyond repair. tires bald as a babies' butt.
Don't forget that they know that every time you start it up the first thing you do as you leave the driveway is to do a burn out & drive like a mad man all through town taunting the cops to chase you like in the Duke's of Hazard!

You know, all them reasons are why we can't use a regular insurer.

Hagerty's on the other hand loves when we do all the above! LOL!

I've got Hagerty and I don't gave a garage. I disclosed this to Hagerty and they had no problem with it after I answered a few questions.

I live out in the sticks and my house is set back from the road about 300' so the car is pretty much out of sight so not much chance of anybody running into it. It goes into storage for the winter which is what they seemed the most concerned about although the New Yorker which I have since sold was stored outside on our property and there was no issue with that either.

I had them insured for $15K each no appraisal required.
