Compliments On Your Cars

We were driving our cars years ago, Buddy has a 70 EF8 Challenger, me in my 73 EW1 Roadrunner, and had swung in to the local parts shop we dealt with. We were at the counter when some guys strolls in the door and asks loudly..."Who owns that green Cougar out there!!" I still bug him about this one when he is out with his car and I come up on him and he doesn't see me....I'll say loudly..."Hey Man is that your Cougar!"...
I have not memorized the paint codes from Mopar, so EF8 and EW1 mean nothing to me. I assume the green car was the Challenger because I doubt that someone looking at a Roadrunner would confuse it with a Cougar.

On the confusion scale, I was driving my Newport in Bakersfield when I still lived there. While stopped at a signal I heard a woman calling to me. I looked to my right and there she was, walking with a man. She said, "What kind of car is that?" When I told her a Chrysler she hit the guy in the arm. Then she said, "He said it was a Chevy; I told him he was wrong, so I asked to prove it." Ha!

Actually, I get the Chevy comment. I do think the front end of the '69-'71 Chyslers to be similar to the '68-9 Chevy Impala and Caprice.

For anyone with advanced O.C.D like myself these are basic codes.....:wideyed::D Yes EF8 is a dark metallic green, called Ivy Green Met, and EW1 is an off white, called Spinnaker white.

When I take my ‘75 Imperial to shows most people will typically comment about the seats and how nice/comfortable it must be to ride in.

Was at a stop light a few years ago when a bus driver pulls up next to me, rolls open the door and yells “Nice Imperial!...that a ‘74 or ‘75?” I was fairly impressed that he knew what I had, most do not

At Mopars in the Park in MN last year I had a guy say “nice Lincoln!” as I drove through the show cars to park. :BangHead:

I agree with that comment! Love the way those seats, and the seats in the latter New Yorkers, look!

Out of all the cars I've owned none have gotten the attention that my 48 Desoto gets. First question is always "what is it" Then it's " are you going to paint it?" My answer is " heck no, it took mother nature 70 years to create that look". It's real patina. Quite often it's the oldest car at the show so that helps grab people's attention.

Jennings ... that's Hemmings (damn you, auto-correct) Classic Car magazine recently had an article making the case for unrestored survivors; it featured a 30's Pontiac in similar condition to your De Soto. I bought it to get ideas on what not to do to my T&C.

I like to be on the giving end of the "what year is it?" compliments. Even a non-Mopar with modifications that aren't quite to my tastes. We're always glad to encounter someone knowledgeable!

I don't get any since I don't ever stop the cars for anybody to get near them. The last two were last year and both were for the truck. One, was waving his arm out the window of his truck coming the opposite direction. The other was when I stopped in a parking lot before picking my son up and a guy walked out of his truck over to mine. The white over green tends to draw the eyes more.

I was driving the Gremlin one day when a woman came up and said, "Nice '73 Gremlin." I almost passed out! She knew what it was and what year. She told me she owned one for years. Ah!!

Back when I had my 60 imperial I stopped in to the station for some gas. While stooping down pumping gas, I hear a horn blow from out on the road and the guy yells “hey dude- leave some gas for everyone else!”
Not really a compliment- or was it?
But funny nonetheless. And that’s why driving these cars old land yachts is so cool- you never know what little mini adventure your going to encounter when you leave the driveway- albeit as long as they are safe ones!

True! Yesterday evening I drove the Newport to a nearby Chinese Restaurant to get some takeout for Frances and me. While sitting on the couch waiting, a woman walks up to me and says, "
That has to be your green car out side." That was not a question! I said yes and she says, "That's got to be the biggest car I've ever seen!!! How long is it??"

Ha!

I asked my wife later, "Did she guess it was mine or did she see my Chrysler hat?"

I was at a stop light just yesterday in my '65 300 'vert. I noticed a car stopped at the light in the left hand turn lane next to me, about 5 feet or so behind me. It slowly creeped up and the woman in the passenger seat asked, "What make is that?" I though it was refreshing to here a genuine question instead of, "nice Lincoln" or "what model Ford is that?". I politely replied, "Chrysler". She congratulated me on a beautiful car and ended our brief conversation with, "They don't make 'em like that anymore. You can actually work on it!". Amen, sister. Amen.

Haven't yet had a chance to collect compliments with the 1974 Fury, but my black 1996 New Yorker (LHS to you Americans) succeeds in eliciting compliments like "That's a flagship car!" or "What a beautiful car!", pronounced almost like a sigh.
