Question on why?

Always been a super big fan of the 60s Super Stock racing and could never figure out two things. First, tinting of some of the headlights, and Second tinting of the windows in colors etc.

The windows are taken from 50/60's gas class drag racers where the glass was replaced with lighter plexiglass. The plexiglass was often tinted/colored and was great for keeping the cars a little cooler. It also looked kinda cool to some.

The headlights was a custom thing for street cars coming out of the sixties. Sometimes it's just for the look or sometimes it was to identify cars from the same club or guys that did some street racing. With the street racing, it identified the cars going to the finish line (at night) as race cars and not the police.

Personally, I think it looks kind stupid on this car... The red headlights will get you a ticket around here and I'm just not a fan of the windows.
 
Might be of interest. Super Stock Gassers some untouched since the 60's. The Anglia/ sp? is quite amazing.

No riddles, some racers did that for tinting out the sun. But it seems for some reason that you have to disagree with something that's factually true! What's up with that?
 
I simply asked a question and other than Big_John I was given bc they can answers. Well hell, I could have said that! Just another prime example of why I'll go back to the A and B body forums. I have met some really nice people, but with that said , I have met many who seem to be 2 cool for school I guess. Thanks for your time, you've been very knowledgeable in assisting me with my question.

I'm just going to jump in here on the OP's question. I was watching a video (Ford Engine In a '67 Chevy II) on YT last night. There were quite a few other cars in the video, which took place at a strip. I noticed there were a lot of cars with tinted windows and colored headlights, which made me remember something. Back around 1970-72, a lot of professional drag racers, including Sox & Martin, were running blue sealed beam headlights on their drag cars. I always wondered about the reason for that too. I also always wondered, but could never find out, if those headlights were specially made for the strip and sold to them tinted blue or did they tint them themselves? I always thought those could be cool on a street driven car, and these days blue would probably be okay legally, in some areas anyway.

I like the look of the red car, but that said, I don't think I would want to have to look through red windows while driving and the red headlights would be a definite no no around here.

Thanks man, agree. I love the look tho from the windows to the headlights. I'm no stranger to the Mopar scene as I just built a nasty 505 stoker. I've always admire and loved the Super Stock era. I made this post truly and only to gather information about a sport I love which is drag racing.

Never saw the super stocks with tinted windows like that. They did have the lightweight Corning(?) glass that was thin. The plexiglass was more with the older gas class cars and was before lexan became common. You would see those windows in the Anglias and Willys. Here's Big John Mazmanian's cars with the tint windows.

Pay no attention to the dumb *** replies. Most of the guys here are pretty cool. This thread just didn't bring them out.
