I'd like to experiment (?) with a fast idle solenoid to see how that reduces or eliminates the trembling my 400 motor (with an Edelbrock 1406 carb) demonstrates at idle with the A/C on. I have a 77 Newport.

The trembling is just enough to be annoying and noticeable. This girl deserves better. There is no trembling without the A/C. I have the original compressor and don't want to spend the big bucks to replace it. The AC--converted to R-134A--works well, although it doesn't get super cold. Around 58F.

Can someone help me research the correct part number from Summit? Do I need a special bracket? I want to connect the solenoid so that it only steps up the idle with the AC on. And not by much.

Thanks Everyone!

Peter

Check out Summit they have a line of them.

This is for the 8059 carb. Not sure if the bracket is correct but they should be able to help you. It will help.

When I converted to a lightweight Sanden, I couldn't believe how much smoother it idled.
I've had cars with the hi-idle solenoid. Hated them. Torque converter hated them, too. Reconsider dumping the R2.

The solenoid was not cheap, like about $150. But it has made a big difference in how she idles with the a/c on. I was afraid that she would idle too high, but no, she just purrs at all times now. I'm a happy camper.

That’s great news I was pretty sure it would. Where did you take the power from.
