67 fast top newport...

All my headliner bows were in my trunk when I bought the car. I'm looking at replacing the headliner next and have no clue how these are supposed to fit. I know they go in the pockets, but some fit tight to the roof...others and inch down...trying to figure out the order they go in and how far from the roof they should lay, and if they are supposed to be straight up and down or curved towards the rear...I want to make my own headliner...or try anyway. There are no markings or colors on the bows to designate order.

I also would love to know how deep the bow pockets in the headliner should be when making it..not sure how far down the headliner is supposed to sit.

The bows should be color coded. The clips that hold them should have fixed points so that you shouldn’t have to worry about depth. I will check and see if I can find pictures of my ‘68 Polara fasttop during disassemble. It should get you close.

Added more information

The headliner will hold the bows upright.

Found my new headliner pictures. It looks like all the sheaves for the bows are equal.

those are great pictures...my bows have no colors on them...should they sit pressed up against the roof or sit down some? that might give me an idea of what order they go in just by fitment.

Edit.
Just touching the insulation You don’t want them to press up into the insulation too tight or it may bind as you are stretching the headliner.
I believe mine are lined up in order so you May get a general idea of the order by shape. Also some of the longer ones will not fit in the narrow portions of the roof. Look at the top of your roof profile. Front is wide to narrow in the rear I believe. Dry fit each in the pockets to find the best fit.

Looking back at my pictures the bows may have been just touching the insulation due to the witness marks.

I rearranged them and they all seem to free float except one...its tight to the roof...I will go back and keep trying.

It seems that I had a couple of clips that had different depths. Also your rear bow should have witness marks from the rear wires.
You May be able to see the difference in pockets on my picture above. They are different colors/ tints

woohoo...I found very very faint colors that I can only see in direct sunlight...faded and corroded, but there....

ok...going by the colors on your list, all my bows fit snug against the roof except Blue...middle bow sits 1/2" down. maybe the color pattern changed? I have different cup depths. the ones in the front and rear are deeper than the middle 3.

I see a black clip on the side rail in your last picture...and I think I see clips in the FSM...are those supposed to be there? I dont think I have them.

The little black clips that you can see on the finished headliner are just a simple “c” or “u” clip it helps clip the edges of the fabric around the corner to help keep it tight before the trim piece goes on. Mine were the originals so I didn’t have to source them. It seems there were only 2 per side? Maybe 3. I will see if I have any disassembly pictures with them in it. As far as the bows it seems only two of mine in the middle were shorter but they all were probably customized a little at the factory.
