Coming up on decisions for my 440 stroker build. Wanting to know your thoughts on an intake that will fit without cutting a hole in the hood and the decision between the old rivals ,Holley and Edelbrock carburetors. Many I have spoken with seem to agree for my build the Edelbrock Performer RPM dual plane intake would be ideal but worry about fitting as it is a very tall manifold. Another was the Holley Dominator which has a much lower profile and would fit,has good flow but is a single plane. Any thoughts would be great on performance and if it fits. Any other intake ideas would be interesting that will fit under the hood of my 69 Fury III to feed this beast.

Carbs, most engine guys prefer Holleys it seems because they can put out more top end power in general than a Edelbrock I guess. In any case I think the way to go is vacuum secondaries and not mechanical because this will be a 95% street car. Correct me if I am wrong.
For a Holley they recommend a 800 cfm. I am also interested [only because I am familiar with them] the Edelbrock AVS2 800 cfm because of the annular booster primary venturis. I hear the throttle response of these carbs is really great and may help the Holley Dominator single plane intake.
Or just the regular AVS 800 cfm. I have a Edelbrock 1406 on my present 440 and like it and very easy to work on and is why I am considering the AVS2.
This is not a drag car and I want my wife to want to ride in it. It will have a rather decent idle and behavior but have alot of torque if I mash it and speed down the highway with the 3.23 rear. I would like to be able to start it up and go anywhere I want at any time ,,,,like a normal car lol.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm not expert enough on the overall combo to recommend the carb. But get vac secondaries.
If it's a street car, with 3.23, wanting the wife to ride along - put on a regular Performer dual plane and carb and measure for clearance. Do some math and see if a taller RPM will fit.

If not - it's a 512, plenty of grunt, who cares if the intake chokes it a little?
I'd rather give up 30hp on an intake than look at a cowl-induction hood or something like that.
But if you do a scoop, the 69 RR A12 is the most suited to a 69 Fury IMO.

Yes thanks for the reply. No holes or hood scoops for me. I think the regular dual plane would fit under the hood. I will check. Some say the Holley single plane wouldn't hurt idle too much because of the size of the engine. Another said they would prefer to see a dual plane and the single plane would have an effect on the idle. It will be painted factory blue and look rather stock down to her HP exhaust manifolds.

Not sure in your vehicle but on my stroker i used a performer rpm with 850 holley and had to use a drop base air cleaner to clear hood. You will sacrifice some hp with the dual plane and a stroker doesnt need any more torque. My 493" made 550hp 600ftlbs. Guy who tuned and dynoed was convinced i was leaving 50hp on the table with the dual plane. But like you i wanted it under the hood. I have a 66 new yorker btw ao your fitment may vary.

I am a big fan of the Edelbrock carbs and feel that with your car being a street car that a dual plane intake is the way to go. What does your engine builder say? What is recommended with your heads? Depending on how much cam you put into the engine you may find that a choke on the carb is worthless.

Remember when determining height/clearance to factor in using a drop down air cleaner base, which will give you more room. Just my 2 cents.

The Edelbrock TM7 is a low enough profile manifold that will fit under you '69 Fury Hood. They are also single plane which means better top end and less on the bottom end. This manifold is a swap meet item these days. If you are not planning to drag race the car, the bottom end is of less concern and plenty will happen with that number of cubes when you mash the throttle at highway speed. I have a TM7 with an 850 Holley, dual pumper dual feed with a manual choke on a '70 Fury. I have always preferred mechanical secondaries on a performance engine to be sure something happens when I mash the throttle. That is why I am not a big fan of the Vac diaphragm setups found on many of the later Holley carbs, they have an annoying habit of failing to open properly. If you do not want a mechanical secondary, then go with the AVS2 as they are more reliable. My 2 cents worth.

Mr Porter recommended to keep it under the hood [as he realises my problem and is familiar with the 69 Fury] a Holley Street Dominator intake but in a perfect world would like to see the Performer RPM dual plane but was worried about it fitting. I asked him about idle quality between the 2 and he wasn't concerned. He didn't like the idea of an Edelbrock carb but said if I want to,use the AVS 800 cfm, as he didnt have any experience with the AVS2. I think I have to buy the drop down air cleaner you recommend FuryGT that fits the dual snorkel. Measure the clearance stock and then the drop down and see the difference as my old 440 is still in the car. I will look into the Edelbrock TM7 that Mr Lux mentions too. Joekay those are very stout numbers. You gave me reason to look into further the possibility of fitting the Performer RPM. What drop base air cleaner did you use? FuryGT uses the one from Mancini. I do want it to get off the line pretty good also not just highway. In other words I want it all which is impossible and there will always be compromises, I do realise that.
Thanks guys for your thoughts.

I am trying to find an Indy dual plane for my stroker. It sits low.

Out of production I presume?

Performer RPM and a Quickfuel ss830 carb with mechanical secondaries and an electric choke. Runs like a champ in town, and runs like an animal at the track. I drive the car year round.

Just noticed not OP, sorry to hijak,
Good morning Cazman, I have an Indy dual plane for RB application, two things though. Its max wedge ports and I had it milled .090 each side to fit my combo. I shelved it when I sold my STVI heads off of my low deck 451 to go with the Mopar 452 aluminum heads. I see Hughes lists them are they out of stock?

The RPM is the way to go if it fits. It fits under the hood of my 68 Charger, I know that does you almost no good at all. If I cannot get this Frankenstein TQ I built to work right I'm going with Eddy AVS2 800. Dave/Dana member here and I were talking about these when I had my Holley refurbished by him. The 600 Eddy's work well, the larger ones so-so he mentioned about the boosters being high. The annualar boosters on the AVS2 should help. That is why I will go with one of these for a purely street car. If your going to make regular passes at the track a Holley style carb is the way to go.
Could try these guys also.FST Carb
At least till Holley takes aim at them

Just a thought @Turboomni will a 3/8 fuel line with return be required for this setup? Been watching this and other build threads with great interest. I have a 511 stroker block ready for heads, cam selection.

My 66 newyorker 505/512 has the stock 5/16 line and a holley mechanical pump. I run 12.20@110 mph with that setup.

Your car never stops amazing me. If I can't run low 11s in my car I'm going to be embarrassed. Thank goodness your on the opposite side of the country.

I was planning on running a stock type mechanical fuel pump with no return line. Any thoughts on a fuel pressure regulator?? If I do run the AVS2 800 cfm I hear the Edelbrocks are sensitive with to high a psi and why I ask.
If I can poke into the 12's with this setup with good user friendly engine behavior on pump gas I will be happy.

I run this holley pump part#12-440-11. it is internally regulated at 6.5 psi and 110gpm. I put it on because the pump on my car was the original pump installed at the factory in 1966. HOWEVER, i do not think the holley was necessary as i never ever had fuel problems and the car ran 12.50's with the stock original pump and stock 5/16 fuel line..
